William F. McCarthy, 92, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, October 26, at the Prescott Long Term Care in North Andover after a lengthy illness.                                                 

 

Born in Boston, January 5, 1918, he was the son of the late, Jeremiah and Catherine (Hutchinson) McCarthy. Raised in Medford, he was a Graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1938. He then received his engineering degree from Lowell Tech.                     

 

A Veteran of WWII, he proudly served his country in the US Navy. Upon his return he was employed as a planner at the Charlestown Navy Yard where he would spend his entire career, retiring in 1970.                                                                                                

Soon after retiring, he met and married the love of his life, Aileen (Morgan) from Haverhill, and would spend the next twenty-five years with her until her death in 2004. He was an avid reader and enjoyed ballroom dancing.                                                              

 

He is survived by his sisters, Kathleen Cannon, of Woburn, and Evelyn McCarthy, of Malden, nieces and nephews, Kathleen Boland, of  Marstons Mills, MA, Eileen Shuman, of Brattleboro, VT, William McCarthy, of York, ME, the Honorable Michael McCarthy, of Nashua, NH, Robert Tremblay, of Ft. Worth, TX, Paul Tremblay, of Cambridge, James Cannon, of Deerfield, NH, John Cannon, of Londonderry, NH, Stephen Cannon, of Woburn, Lynn Larrabie, of Palos Verdes, CA, and Kevin Morgan, of Atkinson, NH, a sister in law, Mary T. (Norris) McCarthy, of Chelmsford, and many grand nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph F. McCarthy, Rita Tremblay, and nieces, Susan Cannon, and Lorraine Tremblay.                                                      

 

Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Friday, October 29, from 5 until 8 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in All Saints Church, Bellevue Ave. Haverhill. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Primrose St. Haverhill. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph School of All Saints Parish, 56 Oak Terrace, Haverhill, MA 01832.
