Richard L. “Rick” Boyle, 51, of Salisbury, died Saturday, September 3, at the Spaulding Hospital in Cambridge, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Medford, he was the son of Carol V. (Ciaburri) and the late Richard T. Boyle. Raised and educated in Tewksbury, he attended Tewksbury Public Schools and was a Graduate of Tewksbury High School, Class of 1978. An all around sports enthusiast, he excelled in Tewksbury High School Hockey, and was a fan of all New England sports teams. A devoted father, he was closely involved with his four daughters, whether it be cooking his “famous tomato sauce” for the annual 9-11 spaghetti dinner sponsored by the girl scouts for the Salisbury Public Services or after school events. An avid reader, he enjoyed his daily Herald and Stephen King.

 His career spanned the over the road as well as road construction. He started his career with Bekins Van Lines, and was employed by the Brox Co., Napoli Trucking and SPS New England.

He leaves four daughters, Darla C. Boyle, of Methuen, U.S. Marine Lance Corporal, Bethany S. Boyle, Camp Pendleton, CA, Tessa M. Boyle, and Carisa R. “Rosie” Boyle, both of Salisbury, a stepson, Joshua Babcock, his significant other, Christine H. Ogilivie, of Salisbury, his mother and stepfather, Carol V. (Ciaburri) Need, and Richard O. Need, of  Wells, ME, siblings, Army Veteran SPC Eileen C. Boyle, of Andover, Marie A. (Boyle) Larose, and her husband, Robert H., of North Reading, James m. Boyle and his significant other, Gia Lynne, of Eastport, ME, Kevin T. Boyle, of Hudson, NH, former wife and dear friend, Robin Boyle, of Methuen, several nieces and nephews, including, Eian Boyle, Carly Bishop, Cammi, Bryce, and Anissa Larose.

Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Tuesday from 4 until 7 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6, Brookline, MA 02445-9924.
