Ada Pearl (Kendrick) Ball, 55

Plaistow, NH - Catherine Ellen (Case) Hailson, 55, of Plaistow, formerly of Haverhill, died Saturday, January 28 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of Catherine R. (Mutch) Case, and the late Charles Henry Case Sr. She attended Haverhill public schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1974.

Mrs. Hailson was employed as a Quality Control Inspector in the High Tech Industry, working for DIGITAL Corp, and more recently at C.T.S. Inc, in Londonderry, NH, until her illness forced her into an early retirement.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she was all about family. Known for her great sense of humor, she would bring laughter and happiness to anyone around her. She loved fishing, dancing, music, and spending time with her loved ones.

She leaves her beloved husband of twenty-five years, Bernard G. Hailson Jr, of Plaistow, two daughters, Tina B. (Morse) Whitt and her husband Shawn, of Manchester, NH, Leigh A. (Hailson) Stuart and her husband Louis, of Newmarket, NH, her mother, Mrs. Catherine R. (Mutch) Case, of Plaistow, five cherished grandchildren, Zachery, Christopher, and Codie Hailson, and Catherine and Trenton Whitt, a sister and brother in law, Ann M. (Case) and Robert G. Jones, of Plaistow, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles H. Case Jr.

Louise (Varrette) Charney, 86

Bradford, MA - Ada Pearl (Kendrick) Ball, 55, of Bradford, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family by her side, on January 24, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 1, 1956, in Wetumpka Rural, Alabama, she was the daughter to the late J.D. Kendrick and Alzetta (Jordan) Kendrick. Moving to Lynn, Massachusetts as a child, she attended English High School. Until her retirement in 2008, Ada was employed by the Merrimack Spool Company in Haverhill.

In her spare time, Ada enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and camping whenever she could, as well as cooking, especially for her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, but of all else, Ada found true enjoyment in dancing. Ada had an amazing passion for life and found no better way to celebrate that then through every opportunity she had to dance, often times enjoying the activity right along with her closest friends and family. Ada will be sadly missed by all who knew her but her memory will live on forever.

Ada is survived by her loving husband of 10 years, Mr. William N. Ball of Bradford, one daughter, Alfreda A. Kendrick of Haverhill, five sons, Paul Kendrick and his wife April of Haverhill, Jason J. Kendrick of Epping, NH, Darrin K Kendrick of Haverhill, Christian A. Kendrick of Haverhill, and a step-son, William N. Ball of Haverhill, six brothers, four sisters, and ten grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her two brothers, Winston and David Kendrick.

Lendell Alexander “Butch” Hurd Jr., 63

Haverhill, MA - Louise (Varrette) Charney, 86 of, Yonkers New York, formerly of Haverhill, died January 18, at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport.

Born in Newburyport, she was the daughter of the late, Frank J. E. and Caroline M. (Dondero) Varrrette. Raised in Amesbury, she was a Graduate of St. Joseoph Grammar School and Graduate of Amesbury High School, Class of 1942. She not only received her Bachelors Degree but she also earned a Master’s Degree from Boston University. Later she would attend Columbia University and earn another Masters Degree in Dance Physiology.

Louise was a professional dance instructor and taught dance in various studios throughout the metropolitan New York City area. She also competed worldwide in Flamenco Dance. Dancing was Louise’s life and she spent every moment learning, teaching, and sharing with others the beauty and grace that was the art of dancing. She will be missed and remembered dearly by the many who had the fortunate opportunity to be taught by or dance with Louise as well as all who knew and loved her.

The widow of Mr. David Charney, she is survive by her brother, George A Verrette and his wife Janice (Schena) of Haverhill, her sister, Frances T. Verrette of Haverhill, a nephew, George Verrette Jr., three nieces, Laura Verrette-Proia, Christina, and Kara Varrette, and her two beloved dogs, Bingo and Foxy.

Groveland, MA - Lendell Alexander “Butch” Hurd Jr., 63 of Groveland, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday, January, 22, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, after a sudden illness.

Born in Lynn, November 30,1948, he was the son of the late, Lendell A. Sr and Ruth (Tucker) Hurd. Raised and educated in Saugus, Butch was always fascinated with cars and auto mechanics. He would eventually find his calling as a self employed mobile truck/auto mechanic. His passion for cars did not end with his love for being a mechanic; it also included a deep passion for stock car racing. He was not only the proud owner of several personally built and modified race cars, but also was an accomplished race car driver. Butch could be found most weekends, along with his family doubling as his pit crew for car #99, racing at both Star and Lee Speedways in New Hampshire. Stock car racing was not the only passion in his life; for it was the love he shared for his wife and family.

On September 26, 1969, Butch would marry the love of his life, Marie Ann (Cuocolo) Hurd. Living in Groveland for the majority of their marriage, Butch and Marie would spend the next forty-two years raising their family together with Marie alongside Butch on the speedways, working as his crew chief.

He leaves his wife Marie A. (Cuocolo) Hurd, of Groveland, a daughter, Vicki A. Hurd, of Seabrook, NH, three sons, Craig D. and his wife, Mellissa, of Haverhill, Colby A. and Dallis J., both of Groveland, four, sisters, Patricia O’Connell and her husband, Michael, of Peobody, Linda Bellatoni and her husband Ned, of Southboro, Barbara Mower and her husband Steve, of Lynn, and Sheree Shepard, of Foxboro, two cherished grandchildren, Sophia and Vincent Hurd, and nieces and nephews.

Arlington, MA - John Stephen Kelly, 56, of Arlington, died Friday, January 20, 2012, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Arlington, he was the son of Geraldine J. (Coutts) and the late Thomas J. Kelly. John was a Graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1973 and obtained his Bachelor Degree from North Adams State College. He completed studies at the New England Institute of Anatomy, Sanitary Science and Embalming and began his distinguished career in funeral service. John was a well respected funeral director who assisted countless families and funeral homes throughout the area.

An avid sports enthusiast, he ran and or biked daily. He enjoyed all of the Boston sports teams, while his favorite pastime was snowmobiling in northern New Hampshire and Canada.

He leaves three children, Michael, Hannah, and Erin Kelly, all of Wilmington, his mother, Geraldine J. Kelly, of Arlington, four brothers, Thomas J. and his wife, Patricia Kelly, of Clinton, Joseph F. and his wife Jeanne, Michael B. and his wife Janet, and Daniel P. Kelly, all of Arlington, three sisters, Paula T. and her husband, Thomas Driscoll, of Reading, Mary C. and her husband, Charles Burke, of South Boston, and Eileen A .and her husband, Mark Roper, of Burlington, aunts, Agnes Phillips, of Arlington, Joan M. Kristin “Kris” Gilbert Broderick, 37

Merrimac, MA - Cecile (Lizotte) Michelin, 97, of Merrimac, died Monday, January 16, at the Brigham Manor Nursing Home in Newburyport after a period of declining health.

Born in Amesbury, October 9, 1914, she was the daughter of the late, Ludger and Marie (Pelletier) Lizotte.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, great great great grandmother, sister and aunt, her life revolved around her family. She was a homemaker; and her door was open to all. She was a tremendous cook as French and Polish cuisines were her specialties.

The widow of Joseph F. Michelin Sr, who died in 1965, she leaves three daughters, Josephine Patricia Sanborn, of Merrimac, Sheila Michelin, also of Merrimac, and Teresa Sheehan and her husband, Paul, of Hampton, NH, grandchildren, Cynthia Hume, Todd Sheehan, Patty Ann Michelin, Linda Souther and her husband Tom, Diana Benson, and her husband Edward, James, John, and Joseph Michelin III, Nancy Dow and her husband, Russell, a sister, Lillian L. McKinney, of Newburyport, and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph F. Michelin Jr, a daughter Christine, her siblings, Joseph, Peter, and Armand Lizotte, and Marie Jean Jacobs, and grandchildren, Karen Greaney, Kathy, Wayne, Jack, Alice and Jean.

Robert Francis Crowley, 74

Haverhill, MA - Kristin “Kris” Gilbert Broderick, 37, of Haverhill, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

Born in Benson, Arizona, he was the son of Philip D. and Sandra J. (Long) Broderick. He was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1992, and attended Emerson College. He then earned his Bachelors Degree at Salem State College and his Masters Degree in Geology, at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

A gifted athlete, Kris enjoyed all sports but excelled in basketball. He was a talented musician playing guitar in many bands. He traveled the world for work and pleasure, as he recently returned from a three year stay in Angola. He was employed as a Geologist for the Exxon-Mobil Corporation in Houston Texas for the past seven years.

The husband of the late, Martha McDermott, he leaves a son, Clayton Edward Broderick, his parents, Philip and Sandra (Long) Broderick, of Haverhill, a brother, Brian Broderick, of Park City, UT, a sister, Morgan and her husband, Geoff Saunooke, of Meridian, Idaho, grandparents, Dorothy long, of Haverhill, and Ernest and Lillian Reynolds, of Plaistow, aunts and uncles, Pamela and Spencer Kimball, Christie Broderick, Carolyn and Charles Elliott, Steven Long, David and Janet Long, Judith Long, Kenneth Long, Linda Ferguson, Laurie long, mark and Megan Reynolds, and many cousins and friends who will dearly miss him.

Theresa (Blinn) O’Brien, 98

Robert Francis Crowley (74) of Groveland died peacefully, while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 10, 2012.

Born in Cambridge and raised in Arlington, MA, Robert was the second of five children born to the late David J. and Mary V. (O’Donnell) Crowley. Robert was a graduate of Arlington High School (’55) and earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Bridgewater State College (’60), while later attending graduate classes at Boston University. Robert proudly served in the National Guard of Massachusetts and the United States Army Reserves, honorably discharged in 1959. Associations include the Bridgewater State Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, St. Patrick’s and Sacred Hearts Parishes, the Knights of Columbus Christ of King Council No. 5004, and the Massachusetts Teachers Association.

Robert was a dedicated teacher and guidance counselor at the Norwell Junior High School in Norwell, MA and later worked for Penn Box in Plaistow, NH for nineteen years. He then worked at the General Electric Workers Assistance Center in Lynn, MA as a Job Development Specialist assisting laid-off workers find new employment.

As a young man, Robert was an enthusiastic athlete and captain of the Bridgewater State Varsity Men’s Tennis Squad. Continuing his love for sports later in life, Robert had a particular passion for coaching and refereeing high school basketball throughout the Merrimack Valley for many years. Other interests included a love for music, where Robert was blessed with an extraordinary singing voice which will be a point of remembrance for many.

Robert was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He leaves behind his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Kathryn M. (Fenlon) Crowley, of Groveland. Children include three sons, Bruce J. of Florida, Kenneth J. of Beverly, and John D. and wife Farrell, of Wellesley, and three daughters, Bridget H. Crowley, of Bradford, Sarah K. Perry and husband Michael, of Groveland, and Judith M.V. Davis and husband Michael, of Boston. Siblings include three brothers, David J. Crowley Jr. and wife Carolyn, of California, J. Richard Crowley and wife Carole, of Arlington, and John M. Crowley and wife Lynette, of Connecticut, and a sister, Mary E. Flynn and husband Robert, of Natick. Robert had twenty seven nieces and nephews. He is also survived by nine dearly loved grandchildren, including Shawn Crowley, Kevin Crowley, Hannah Perry, Cullen Perry, Margot Crowley, Ava Perry, Christian Perry, Harry Crowley and Marianne Crowley.

Bradford, MA - Theresa (Blinn) O’Brien, 98, of Bradford, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012.

Born Mary Rose Theresa Blinn August 25, 1913. She was the daughter of Philip and Esther (LeBlanc) Blinn. A devout parishioner of Sacred Hearts Parish, she was a Eucharistic Minister, Alter Server and a member of the Catholic Daughters #864 Court Sacred Hearts. Primarily a homemaker all of her life, Mrs. O’Brien was a woman of strong faith and family values.

She was married to Paul F. O’Brien for thirty-six years until his death in 1972. She was the mother of Elizabeth and her husband, John Abromovitch, of South Dennis, MA, Judith and her husband William Grant, of Haverhill, Michael J. O’Brien, of Bradford, and Kathy and her husband, Alan Peters, of Bradford, ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Lucy Comeau, Lorraine Sargent, Fred, Moise, Emil, Joseph, Denis, and Wilfred Blinn.

Haverhill, MA - Frank A. “Red” Smith, Jr., 87, a lifelong resident of Haverhill’s Rocks Village, passed away January 5, 2012 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, after a brief period of declining health.

Red was born in Haverhill on March 4, 1924 to Frank A. Sr. and Frances E. (Follett) Smith. He attended Haverhill public schools, graduating from Haverhill High School in 1941. During World War II, he worked at the Portsmouth Navy Yard before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943, where he attained the rank of Sergeant and was a hydraulic systems specialist for B-25s and other bombers.

After the war, he joined the Haverhill Fire Department, and served with his father in the city’s fire alarm headquarters. He retired after 33 years in 1979, as Deputy Chief/Superintendent of Fire Alarms. He then worked for the L.W. Bills Company in Georgetown for 23 years, testing fire alarms systems throughout eastern Massachusetts until 2003. He was a member of the International Municipal Signal Association and the Haverhill Firefighters Relief Association.

He enjoyed traveling, golfing, hunting, fishing, skiing and making improvements to the family home in Rocks Village, where his favorite pastime was watching boaters and wildlife on the Merrimack River.
Red was predeceased by his brother Earl F. “Bud” of Haverhill. He is survived by his wife Annette, his children: Gregory A. Smith of Concord, NH, Audrey J. Lehane and her husband Charles of Amherst, MA, Dianne M. Smith of Brookfield, NH, and David A. Smith and his wife Tina of Merrimac, MA. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Amy Lehane of Easthampton, MA, Corinne Briggs of Easthampton, MA, Katie Lehane of Putnam Valley, NY, and Skylar Smith and Aidan Smith both of Merrimac, MA, and by three great-grandchildren.

George Edward Riley, 82

Ruth E. (Snow) DeVeau, 84

Haverhill, MA - George Edward Riley, 82, of Haverhill, died peaceful, with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill, after a long illness.

Born in Boston, MA on February 2, 1929, he was the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. George L. and Margaret “Donnelly” Riley. He was educated in local Boston schools, graduating from the Boston Technical High School, the Class of 1946. George continued his education later in life, receiving an Associates Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Lowell Technical College in 1960 and a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Technology from North Eastern University in 1965. A World War II Veteran, George proudly served as a “Communication Specialist” in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948.

On September 6, 1952, George would marry the love of his life, Ms. Barbara K. Brien, who would remain by his side, living and raising their family in Haverhill, for the next 59 years.

George worked as an Electrical Engineer for the majority of his working career, working for several prominent local New England Companies including, R. A. Sullivan Co., R. L. Borsetti Co., Western Electric, A. T. & T., and Lucent Technologies, where he would work until his retirement in 1989.

A parishioner of All Saints Parish, George in his spare time, enjoyed Bowling and playing the guitar for his friends and family. He will be sadly missed by his family but his memory and loving legacy will live within the hearts forever.

George is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mrs. Barbara K. “Brien” Riley, four sons, James E. Riley and Deborah Deem of Camarillo, CA., Thomas J. and his wife, Deborah A. (Dow) of Bradford, MA., Robert K. and his wife Susan (Schmidt) of Tuscon, AZ., and William B. and his wife Deneen (Porazzo) of Woburn, MA., four grandchildren, Brad, Heather, Carl, and Ian Riley, two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Alex Riley, and two nieces.

Northwood, NH - Ruth E. (Snow) DeVeau, 84, of Northwood, formerly of Haverhill, died Friday, December 30, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Newton, NH, she was the daughter of the late, Charles E. and Ruth E. (Yeargle) Snow. Educated in Haverhill public schools, she attended Haverhill High School. She lived in Colorado for many years before returning to New England in 1996 and has lived in the Northwood, NH area for the past fifteen years.

Ruth had a long and varied career; she was always affiliated with service to people. As a waitress she was employed at many local restaurants, including the Lanam Club in Andover. She then moved on to become a private duty home health care provider and worked for the Home health V.N.A. of Merrimack Valley.

In her spare time Ruth loved to travel, she enjoyed playing BINGO and had difficulty passing by any store, always looking for a bargain.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she leaves her beloved children, Hubert J. “Jean” DeVeau Jr, currently of Tennessee, Joseph L. DeVeau, Sr, currently of New Jersey, Gregory J. and his wife, Carolyn, of Annapolis, MD, Cheryl A. Dale C. (Corthell) Jackson, 60

Haverhill, MA - May B. (Keefe) Costello, 99, a longtime resident of Haverhill and beloved wife of the late, John T. Costello, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, December 28, at the Baker-Katz Healthcare and Rehab Center after a brief illness.

Born in Lawrence, June 18, 1912, she was the daughter of the late, John J. and Bernadette (Veaudreil) Keefe. She was educated in the Lawrence schools. Soon after Graduation she married and moved to Haverhill where she worked and raised her family. After working at Pentucket Bank for seventeen years, she retired as Secretary to the president in 1977. She and her husband John spent many happy winters in New Port Richey, FL.

May’s happiest times were spent at home, hosting family gatherings, where she served great food, laughter, and much love. She was an avid fan of the New England sports teams. She enjoyed the game of golf with her husband, as they were members of the Haverhill Country Club.

May is survived by her three children, Joan M. Costello, of Haverhill, John T. Costello, and his wife, Clare, of Seabrook Beach, NH, and James E. Costello, and his wife, Elaine, of Lawrence, three cherished grandchildren, Kevin James, and Jack Costello, two great-grandchildren, Emily Costello, and Kyle Costello, a sister in law, Helen Checovich, of Seabrook Beach, NH, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, William, James, and John Keefe.

May at 99-1/2 did it her way! Loved by all…she will be missed.

Adolphe E. “Ernie” Vallieres, 88

Haverhill, MA - Dale C. (Corthell) Jackson, 60, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, December 20, at the Massachusetts General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born in Newburyport, she was the daughter of the late, Donald E. and Lillian L. (Berube) Corthell. Dale attended public schools in Boston, and Haverhill. She was employed as head teller for the Bank of Boston, and for over twenty-five years she was employed as an auditor for the I.R.S. in Andover.

The widow of Russell G. Jackson Sr, who died in 1995, she was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crafting, cooking, and any excuse to bring family together. In her quiet time, she would curl up to a romance novel, and in her younger days she bowled in two leagues at Academy Lanes and Pilgrim Lanes. More recently she could be found in front of her computer as she was a serious facebook gamer.

She leaves a son, Russel G. Jackson Jr, and his wife Renee, of Londonderry, NH, a daughter, Danielle L. Corthell, of Conway, NH, four cherished grandchildren, Aidan-James R. Jackson, Noah G. Jackson, Enrique S. Alverez, and Miguel E. Alverez, a brother, Donald E. “Buster” Corthell Jr, and his wife, Debra, of Lakewood, CO, two sisters, Debra M. and her husband, Darrell A. Hollenbeck Sr, of Atkinson, NH, and Donna –Lee L. Corthell, of Haverhill. She was predeceased by her nephew, Billy Ammells, and grand nephew, Ryan Neumann.

Joanne D. (Ruocco) Brisson, 74

Cape Coral, Florida - Adolphe E. “Ernie” Vallieres, 88, of Cape Coral, formerly of Lowell and Haverhill, died Thursday, December 22, at the Hospice house at Health Park, in Fort Myers, Florida.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, Wilfrid and Ernestine E. (Fontaine) Vallieres. He was a Graduate of St. Joseph Grammar School, Class of 1938, and a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1942. As a young man in St. Joseph’s Parish, he was proud to be the first Eagle Scout of Troop #27.

Upon graduation, Mr. Vallieres proudly entered into the U. S. Navy to serve his country and rose to the rank of Chief Yeoman, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, and Good Conduct Medal

In October of 1948 he married the love of his life, Yvette H. (Martin). Together they raised their family in Haverhill. For over thirty-one years, “Ernie” was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. He was first a clerk, a carrier, and became a supervisor in the Haverhill Post Office, and retired in 1985. He also dabbled in Real Estate, earning his Brokers License and worked in that field for over twenty years.

Along with his beloved wife of sixty-three years, he leaves, his children, Theresa J. Bickford, of Cape Coral, FL, with whom he lived, William E. and his wife, Maureen Vallieres, of Derry, NH, Rene N. and his wife, Liza Vallieres, of Miami, FL, Marc V. and his wife, Susan Vallieres, of Newbury, NH, Michael and his wife, Maureen Vallieres, of Haverhill, and Anne E. and her husband, John Koch, of West Edmeston, NY, 12 grandchildren: Matthew and Christoper Bickford; Peter, Laura Barchard, Thomas, and Theresa Anne Vallieres; Bryan Vallieres; Kathryn Seaver and Allyson Vallieres; Joseph, Antoninia, and Alexey Koch; and 5 great-grandchildren; Madison and Grace Bickford; Jackson Seaver; Mason and Tonya Marie Barchard; a sister, Teresa Welch, of Haverhill, and many nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by his sisters, Helene Staples Rogers and Gloria DeRoche; and his brothers, Paul, Joseph, and Lucien Vallieres.

Haverlill, MA - Joanne D. (Ruocco) Brisson, 74, of Bradford, died Thursday, December 22, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by her family, after an illness.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Perry B.and Sophie R. (Schena) Ruocco. Joanne attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1955. Primarily a homemaker, prior to raising a family, Joanne was employed as a Head Teller and Manager in the local banking industry. The most rewarding job however was that of being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed nothing more than time spent with her family, dancing with her husband, and a friendly game of cards.

She leaves her beloved husband of forty-five years, Edward J. Brisson, of Bradford, three daughters, Lynn-Marie Viana, and her husband, Manoel, of Derry, NH, Sherri-Ann Pittella and her husband, Joseph, of Haverhill, and Traci-Ellen Brousseau, and her husband, Arthur, also of Haverhill, six cherished grandchildren, Jenna L. Haverhill, MA - Shawn Michael Ambrose, 36, of Haverhill, died unexpectedly, on Thursday, December 15, at his home.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of, Patricia J. Ambrose, and Edward N. Plaisted. He attended Haverhill public schools and Haverhill High School. A self employed mason by trade he worked for various contractors throughout the Merrimack Valley.

As a young man, Mr. Ambrose was involved in the Haverhill Boxing Club. He trained with hopes of one day becoming a Golden Glove Champion. He had a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs. Living in Florida for over five years, he owned and operated “Scratch-em-up” kennel where he bred and raised Pit Bull Terriers that were prized by enthusiasts of the breed.

He leaves two beloved daughters, Alicia M. and Arianna P. Ambrose, of Unity, NH, his mother, Patricia J. Ambrose, of Haverhill, and her partner in life, Kevin Closs, of Hampton, NH, a brother, Edward LaPierre, of Rochester, NH, two sisters, Stacy and Katie LaPierre, his father, Edward N. Plaisted, and his significant other, Rita LaPierre, all of Milton, NH, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. His kindness, compassion, and loyalty to his family and friends will be deeply missed.

Robert C. Ritchie, 86

Haverhill, MA - Robert C. Ritchie, 86, of Bradford, died Saturday, December 17, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, Raymond B. and Elizabeth A. (McCaughey) Ritchie. He attended Haverhill public schools, Haverhill High School and Massachusetts Radio Trade School in Boston. A lifelong resident of Bradford, he was a member of Sacred Hearts Parish, Knights of Columbus Council #202, and AMVETS Post 147.

A Veteran of WWII, Corporal Ritchie proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Force, where he specialized in Radio Mechanics and communications. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon.

Mr. Ritchie was employed as a television and electronics Repair Technician at Mehl’s T. V. for thirty-two years and Pigeon Electric Co. in Haverhill, until his retirement in 2009.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he leaves his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Mary E. “Betty” (McAuliffe) Ritchie, of Bradford, three daughters, Carol A. Lagasse, of Haverhill, Joanne M. Blynn, of Bradford, and, Patricia E. Richard A. Hodgkins, 83

Washington, D. C. - Richard A. Hodgkins, 83, U.S. Army Ret., of Washington, D.C., formerly of Nashua, NH, died Friday, December 9, at the Washington Hospital Center, after a long illness.

Born in Chelsea Massachusetts on April 28, 1928, he was the son of Mr. Joseph Francis and Mrs. Susan Gertrude (Lewis) Hodgkins. Raised and educated in Chelsea schools, Richard worked as a printer for several prominent printing companies in the greater Boston area before being drafted into the Military.

A dedicated solider and Bronze Star Recipient, Richard joined the United States Army on November 16, 1950, beginning a 30 year career, serving during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Advancing quickly to First Sergeant within his first year of service, Richard began his training in Military Intelligence July 15, 1952. Throughout his career service in Military Intelligence, Richard was responsible for conducting security investigations, intelligence collection, and counter intelligence operations with assignments in Korea, Vietnam, Germany, and Washington D.C., just to name a few. His role within the intelligence community contributed to significant advances during both war and peace time, updating and briefing both the intelligence community as well as members of the U.S. Military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff and the President of the United States. His retired in January 1981 as a Warrant Officer (WO4), with the honor of being asked to continue at the U.S. Army Intelligence School, Fort Devens until the school was moved to Arizona.

Richard was an avid enthusiast of music, especially opera, studying and listening to classical favorites. Richard began lessons and would be named and accepted as a “First Tenor” for the “Handel & Hayden Society,” a very large and popular Boston based chorus. His passion for music stayed constant, even during the later years of his life.

During retirement, Richard found enjoyment in the simplicity of art, working for the Geneseo Arts and Crafts Center from 1982 through 1986 and would eventually begin his work towards the completion of many hand crafted pieces in both woodworking and jewelry design, creating timeless treasures his family will always be able to enjoy and use to remember Richard by.

Richard is survived by two children, a son, Mark R. Hodgkins of Lawrence, Ma and a daughter, Linda M. Ruscio of Methuen, Ma., their mother, Fannie M.(Engstrom) Hodgkins, 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Richard was pre-deceased by his two sisters, Dorothy Bendenelli and Alice Mahoney, and most recently, his beloved daughter, Susanne M. Smith.

Haverlill, MA - Flora Pagan, 60, a Haverhill resident of 24 years, died peacefully, with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at the Lawrence General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in the Dominican Republic, on July 1, 1951, she was the loving daughter of Rafael and Maria (Cornelio) Pagan. Having been born, raised, and educated in the Dominican Republic, she moved to Haverhill in 1986, having worked as a Machine Operator for the Evelyn Fabric Corporation as well as devoting the remainder of her free time to her loving family. Flora loved spending most of her time with her beautiful and loving grand daughters, and also enjoyed cooking, a passion for which she loved to share with her family and friends.

Flora is survived by her loving mother, Ms. Maria (Cornelio) Pagan, her three beloved children, a son, Christian Fresa, of Haverhill, and two daughters, Jackeline Fresa, of Haverhill, and Diana Fresa, of Haverhill, her brother and sisters, Cruz Perez, Rafaela Pagan, Rafael Pagan, Celia Dominguez, Maria Santana, Xiomara Arize, and Lourdes Pagan, seven grandchildren, Yeraida Pina, Yulissa Diaz, Yaneli Diaz, Kristine, Fresa, Krisnelly Fresa, Dania Rivera, and Wendi Rivera, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Quico Pagan.

Haverlill, MA - Bang Ja (Kim) Moulton, 75, a Haverhill resident of thirty-five years, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born, raised, and educated in Seoul, South Korea, she fell in love and married her husband, the late, Raymond E. Moulton, MSG, U.S. Army. As her husband was career U.S. Army, they came to the United States, having lived previously in Korea, France, and Germany; Fort Dix, New Jersey was their last assignment before settling in Haverhill in 1976.

A devoted wife, mother, and friend, Mrs. Moulton was primarily a homemaker. For ten years she was employed as a quality control inspector for DIGITAL Corp. in Salem, NH. She enjoyed traveling and gardening, and an occasional card game with close friends and family.

The widow of Raymond E. Moulton, who died in 1993, she leaves her beloved children, a son with whom she lived, Kenneth D. Moulton, and a daughter, Christine M. Moulton, both of Haverhill. She also leaves a brother and sister and nieces and nephews in Korea.

Grace E. (Burchell) Hart

Elaine M. (Beaudoin) Delescluse, 59

Haverhill, MA - Grace E. (Burchell) Hart, lifelong resident of Bradford, MA, died Sunday, November 13, at Port Healthcare in Newburyport.

Grace was the daughter of the late John H. and Maryellen (McGonagle) Burchell. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School and Catherine Dell Secretarial College in Boston. Grace was the office manager for Dr. Paul Provost for many years. She was a parishioner of Sacred Hearts Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America's Court Sacred Hearts #864.

Grace was the widow of Richard T. Hart and is survived by her son Thomas R. Hart of Bradford, sister and her husband Audrey and Arthur DuGrenier, and brother John Burchell of Hanover, MA, and several nieces and nephews.

St. Albans, Maine - Elaine M. (Beaudoin) Delescluse, 59, of St. Albans, Maine, formerly of Lawrence, died Monday, October 24, at her home.

Born in Lawrence, November 15, 1951, she was the daughter of the late, Joseph and Lucienne (Bourgoin) Beaudoin. She attended Lawrence Public Schools and Lawrence High School.

Shortly after her marriage to her husband Michael, they relocated to their northern Maine paradise, and enjoyed the natural surroundings. A fantastic cook, she owned and operated the Hartland Diner in Hartland, Maine for many years, retiring in 2009.

She leaves her beloved husband of forty-two years, Michael M. Delescluse, of St. Albans, ME, a sister and her husband, Theresa (Lemay) and Robert Knox, of Nottingham, NH, brothers, Wilfred Lemay, of New Mexico, Joseph Beaudoin and his wife Ann, of Hampstead, NH, Richard Beaudoin and his wife, Stella, of Methuen, and Peter Beaudoin and his wife Diane, of Margate, FL, brothers and sisters in law, Joseph, Paul, Brenda, Madeline, father in law, Joseph Delescluse Sr, and several nieces and nephews.

Haverhill, MA - Natalie M. (Dandurant) Ferguson, 84, of Bradford, died Saturday, October 29, at the holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, John and Annie A. (O’Driscoll) Dandurant. She attended Haverhill Public Schools and Haverhill High School.
Mrs. Ferguson began her career at the former Western Electric in Haverhill in manufacturing. She then was employed in the Haverhill Shoe Leather Industry, manufacturing belts. She worked at the former Operation Alligator, later known as Clicker City, in Haverhill. Returning to A T & T, she would retire from the North Andover Company in 1992.

She was a devoted mother to her nine children and her life revolved around her family. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed football and golf. One of the highlights of her life was her family trip to her mother’s homeland of Ireland.

She leaves her beloved children, Thomas Ferguson, and his wife, Susan, of Rochester, NH, Robert Ferguson, and his wife Anita, of Methuen, Jane Comeau and her husband, James, of Haverhill, William Ferguson, and his wife, Trude, of Atkinson, NH, Michael Ferguson and his wife, Elizabeth, of Grand Junction, CO, Linda Ferguson, of Somersworth, NH, Nancy Wyman, and her husband, David, of Atkinson, NH, Mark Ferguson, and his wife, Laura, of Haverhill, and Melissa Walker, and her husband, Greg, of Haverhill, twenty-three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy L. (Danforth) Ridlon, 67

Auburn, MA - Edmund J. Chernesky, of Auburn, MA, formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday, October 30, at his home, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, Joseph and Rose (Kiarsis) Chernesky. Educated in Haverhill Public Schools, he was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1952.

Mr. Chernesky was employed as the Head Custodian of Environmental Services in the Bagnall School in Groveland for over twenty years. He was loved by students and teachers alike. He was a sports fan, especially the New York Yankees and Giants. In his younger days, he played softball in the local leagues. He loved animals, and was an avid gardener, spending hours working in his yard.

He leaves his beloved wife of twenty years, Susan M. Haverhill, MA - Dorothy L. (Danforth) Ridlon, 67, of Salisbury, formerly of Haverhill, died Friday, October 21, at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Methuen after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, March 4, 1944, she was the daughter of the late, Harvey E. and Evelyn M. (Sayers) Danforth. Educated in Haverhill Public Schools, she attended Haverhill High School. She began her career working in the Kramer Shoe in Haverhill and later she was employed as an assembler at Western Electric in North Andover.

A devoted mother and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with her family, going camping, and cooking. For entertainment she liked playing BINGO, and she held fond memories of her travels to Holland and Germany.

She leaves her beloved children, a son, John E. Danforth, of Haverhill, a daughter and son in law, Donna J. and William F. Howarth, of Lawrence, three cherished grandchildren, Bradly W. and Alisha D. Howarth, and Victoria Danforth, four brothers, Earl Danforth, and his wife Rae, of Hampstead, NH, Harold Danforth, of Haverhill, David Danforth, and his wife, Bernadette, of Clearwater, FL, and Norman Danforth, and his wife Susan, of Newark, NY, four sisters, Barbara Lawrence, of Kingston, NH, Shirley Page, of Atkinson, NH, Evelyn Gulledge and her husband Theodore, of Shrewsbury, Linda Kinnison and her husband, Ronald, Sandra Pontbriand, sister in law, Gerry Danforth, of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert Sayers, and Donald and Harvey Danforth.

Haverhill, MA - Mark Allen Young, Lieutenant, Haverhill Fire Department, 51, of Haverhill and Florida, died , Tuesday, October 4, at his home in Florida, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Haverhill, August 24, 1960, he was the son of James E. Young and Deanna B. (Poley). He attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1978. He then went on to further his education at Norwich University. He received his bachelor’s degree in fire science. For over twenty-two years, Mr. Young, A.K.A. “Baggus” the “Peacock”, was employed by the City of Haverhill as a firefighter. Rising to the rank of Lieutenant, he earned the respect of his brother firefighters. He was a member of the Saggahew Lodge, A.F.& A.M., Haverhill, the I.A.F.F., Local 1011, and being a motorcycle enthusiast, he was a member of the Fire and Iron Motorcycle Club, Merrimack Valley Chapter 28.

He leaves his wife, Tracy L. (Kangas) Young, of Port Orange, Florida, three daughters, Justine M. Young, Jennifer L. Young, and Kayla L. Chapman, a son, Mark A. Young Jr, his father, James E. Young and his wife Irene (Richards), of Epping, NH, his mother Deanna B. (Poley) Holsinger, and her husband Richard, of Haverhill, mother in law, Barbara Harrison, of Haverhill, a brother, Keith E. Groveland, MA - Catherine C. (Sullivan) McGranachan, 84, of Groveland, formerly of Cotuit, died Tuesday, October 5, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late, Daniel and Mary (Walsh) Sullivan. She attended Boston Public Schools and was a Graduate of Roslindale High School, Class of 1945. A resident of Cotuit for many years, she relocated to Groveland six years ago.

A homemaker most of her life, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, and her flowers made it into the landscapes of her many friends and family members’ yards.

The widow of James J. McGranachan Sr., who died in 2000, she leaves three daughters, Cathy M. McGranahan, of Georgetown, Janice A. Keefe, and her husband, Edward, of Lynn, and Jean M. Huggins, and her husband, Ronald, of Falls Church, VA, four grandchildren, James J. Keefe, Emily J. McGranachan, Hunter M. Huggins, and Alexis N. Huggins, two brothers, John Sullivan, Daniel Sullivan and his wife Margaret, of Cotuit, a sister, Mary E. Sullivan, of Roslindale, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, James J. Esther R. (Lee) Christian, 92

Haverhill, MA - Rosealma B. (Belanger) Desmarais, 101, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died Monday, October 3, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Haverhill, December 14, 1909, the daughter of the late, Joseph and Emma (Brouillett) Belanger. She attended the Pollard School in Plaistow, NH and at a young age went to work in the local shoe industry. For over twenty-five years, Mrs Desmarais was employed at Al’s Place Restaurant in Haverhill, as the Salad Chef, retiring at age 93. She was a member of St. James Church and the St. James Ladies Sodality.

Rosealma’s whole world revolved around her family; a marvelous cook, and baker, she decorated cakes, and enjoyed gardening, picking blueberries, strawberries, apples, canning, long stitch, bowling, and spending hours at the computer.

The widow of Joseph A. Desmarais who died in 1978, she leaves her beloved children, Armand J. Desmarais and his wife Jean, of Inverness, FL, Albert A. Desmarais, and his wife Claire, of Derry, NH, Alfred O. Desmarais and his wife, Rita, of Bradford, Joan B. and her husband Charles Kelley, of Maynard, and Carolyn A. and Stephen Radzwill, of Haverhill, 15 grandchildren, and 33 great grandchildren . The eldest of eight siblings who predeceased her, Irene Mourey, Helen Drapeau, Marguerite (Dusombre) Allen, Joseph Belanger, Emmarose Bergeron, Francis Belanger, Marie Thornton, Theresa Belanger, and her son, and daughter in law, Robert L. and Jean Desmarais.

Her kindness, generosity, and love exhibited to her family and friends will leave an everlasting impression on all who knew her.

Born in Biddeford, Maine, January 6, 1919, she was the daughter of the late, John J. and Catherine (Callary) Lee. She attended Biddeford public schools and was a graduate of Biddeford High School, Class of 1938.

Esther and her husband Robert relocated to Haverhill in 1950, where they would raise their family. She was employed as a Nurses Aid at the former Union Mission, now known as Penacook Place Nursing Home for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of St. James Parish and the St. James Ladies Sodality. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with family and also loved traveling.

The widow of, Robert T. Christian who died in 1984, she leaves her sons, Robert L. Christian and his wife, Judith, of Plaistow, NH, John S. Christian, of Lowell, and Mark P. Christian, of Haverhill, a daughter, Margaret C. “Peggy” Vannella and her husband Carmine, of Merrimac, nine grandchildren, Robert, Julie, Adam, Matthew, Beth, Melissa, Melanie, and Kristopher Christian and Anthony Vannella, four great grandchildren, Lyndsay, Brooke, and Olivia Christian, and Celia Ralph, a brother Thomas R. Haverhill, MA - Charles Hillner III, 72, of Haverhill, died Wednesday, September 21, at home after being stricken ill suddenly.

Born in Haverhill, September 5, 1939, he was the son of the late, Charles Hillner Jr., and Mildred E. (MacGregor). He attended Haverhill public schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1957. An Electrician by trade, Mr. Hillner spent his career as a contractor throughout the Merrimack Valley and Boston area.

He leaves two sons, Charles Hillner IV, of Haverhill, NH, and Timothy B. Hillner, of Atkinson, NH, a brother, Lawrence M. Hillner, of Manchester, NH, eight grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Stephen D. Hillner, on September 20, 2011, a brother, Christopher A. Hillner, and sister, Gretchen E. Pear.

Dorothy A. (Shepard) Johnson, 64

Haverhill, MA - Stephen D. “Scooter” Hillner, 50, of Merrimac, formerly of Salisbury, and Haverhill, died Tuesday, September, 20, 2011 at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport after a lengthy battle with lung disease.

Born in Haverhill, September 30, 1960, he was the son of the late Charles Hillner III, who passed away on September 21, 2011, and Carolyn (Snow) Damour. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Whittier Tech, Class of 1978. Upon Graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard and proudly served for the next six years, being honorably discharged in 1984.

Stephen was a man of many talents; he spent many years as a commercial tuna fisherman out of Newburyport, MA. He loved the sea and the camaraderie with his fellow fisherman. He was known for his hilarious fishing tales and sharing them with anyone who would listen. He also owned and operated S.D. Hillner & Son’s Contracting Business for several years until his illness forced him into early retirement. Friends and family will always remember him as a man who made great music. He was a gifted pianist and wrote much of his own music. He performed in area dinner venues for many years.

He is survived by four children, a son, Stephen J. Hillner, and daughter, Jessica Hoos, both of Berlin, NJ, a daughter, Jennifer Fern, of Newburyport, a son, Cody Hillner, of Groveland, his mother, Carolyn (Snow) and her husband Frank Damour, of Henniker, NH, two brothers, Timothy Hillner, of Atkinson, NH, and Charles Hillner IV, of Haverhill, NH, and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved uncle, Lawrence M. Hillner, of Manchester, NH, who was by his side a great deal during the past two difficult years.

Dorothy was employed at the former William Carter Co, and later, as a Nurses Aid at the Haverhill Manor Nursing Home, and also at the Howard Johnson Motor Inn all in Haverhill. A devoted mother and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with her family and cherished grandchildren. She loved animals, and in her spare time enjoyed knitting, and quilting. A selfless woman with a big heart, she always thought of others.

The widow of Walter M. Johnson Sr., she leaves her loving son and daughter in law, Walter M. Jr, and his wife Sherri L. (Vadeboncoeur) Johnson, of Derry, NH, three grandchildren, Syleena, Madison, and Felisha, a sister, Alice Rettman, of Franklin, and nieces and nephews. Haverhill, MA - Carole Anne Fulton, 83, of Georgetown and formerly of Haverhill, died Wednesday, September 14 at the Oxford Nursing Home in Haverhill after a lengthy illness.

Born and educated in Swampscott, she was the daughter of the late, Maxwell J. and Mabel I. (Cameron) Fulton. For many years she was employed in as a Nurses Aid in local nursing homes throughout the area.

She leaves her daughter, Linda J. St. Jean, of Georgetown, two sons, Paul J. Tenaglia, of New York City, and David C. Tenaglia, of Florida, a step daughter, Paula Clark, a sister, Jean Fulton, of Canada, five grandchildren, and close friend and caregiver, Roberta Curtin.

Salisbury-Richard L. “Rick” Boyle, 51, of Salisbury, died Saturday, September 3, at the Spaulding Hospital in Cambridge, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Medford, he was the son of Carol V. (Ciaburri) and the late Richard T. Boyle. Raised and educated in Tewksbury, he attended Tewksbury Public Schools and was a Graduate of Tewksbury High School, Class of 1978. An all around sports enthusiast, he excelled in Tewksbury High School Hockey, and was a fan of all New England sports teams. A devoted father, he was closely involved with his four daughters, whether it be cooking his “famous tomato sauce” for the annual 9-11 spaghetti dinner sponsored by the girl scouts for the Salisbury Public Services or after school events. An avid reader, he enjoyed his daily Herald and Stephen King.

His career spanned the over the road as well as road construction. He started his career with Bekins Van Lines, and was employed by the Brox Co., Napoli Trucking and SPS New England.

He leaves four daughters, Darla C. Boyle, of Methuen, U.S. Marine Lance Corporal, Bethany S. Boyle, Camp Pendleton, CA, Tessa M. Boyle, and Carisa R. “Rosie” Boyle, both of Salisbury, a stepson, Joshua Babcock, his significant other, Christine H. Ogilivie, of Salisbury, his mother and stepfather, Carol V. (Ciaburri) Need, and Richard O. Need, of Wells, ME, siblings, Army Veteran SPC Eileen C. Boyle, of Andover, Marie A. (Boyle) Larose, and her husband, Robert H., of North Reading, James m. Amesbury, MA - Raymond T. Godfrey, of Amesbury, formerly of Haverhill, died Friday, September 2, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital after being stricken ill suddenly at home.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, Michael and Delia (Fitzgerald) Godfrey. He was a Graduate of St. James Grammar School, and Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1952. A Veteran of the Korean War, Mr.Godfrey proudly served in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged.

Mr. Godfrey was employed in the Street Department for the Haverhill Gas Co, and later the Essex County Gas Company. He relocated to Amesbury along with the Gas Company in 1976, and retired in 1994. A man of strong faith, he grew up in St. James Parish in Haverhill and was a daily communicant at the Star of the Sea Church after his move to Amesbury.

He leaves two brothers, Edward F, and his wife, Carolyn E. Godfrey, of Haverhill, and John J. and his wife Patricia Godfrey, of Raymond, NH, several nieces and nephews, and friends of his close community in Amesbury who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his brothers, William B. and Gerald M., and a sister, Theresa Wentworth.

Haverhill, MA - Linda Jean Butler, 51, of Haverhill, died Thursday, September 1, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family, after a two year courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of Joseph B. and Sandra (Lahaye) Butler. She attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1977.

Linda began her varied career at Napoli’s Pizza in Haverhill and went on to work in the high tech industry, including Digital and later Compac Computer Manufacturing Co. A lover of animals, she especially enjoyed horseback riding.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and loving companion to her significant other of twenty-six years, Michael Quatrale, of Stratham, NH. Along with her parents, she leaves two sons, Michael P. Bakanosky Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, of Topsfield, and Jason A. Bakanosky, and his significant other, Angelique Neptune, of Bradford, maternal grandmother, Rita V. (Leclair) Lahaye, of Haverhill, two brothers, Raymond Butler and his wife, Kelly, of Epping, NH, and Gary Butler, of Lowell, a sister, Lori Canney, and her husband, Joseph, of North Carolina, six cherished grandchildren, Michael P. Bakanosky III, Aiden, Tristen, Gabriel, Kyle, and Julien Bakanosky, and aunts uncles, and cousins who will miss her dearly.

Methuen, MA - Lucinda Marie “Cindy” (Baker) Velozo, 45, of Methuen, formerly of Haverhill, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011.

The daughter of Jack C. Baker and the late Marilyn L. (Hunt) Baker, she was raised and educated in Haverhill. She attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1984, and attended Northern Essex Community College.

Ms. Velozo was employed as a cost accountant for the former AVCO and later Textron Defense Systems in Wilmington for over twenty-three years. She was a lover of animals and enjoyed music, dancing, and her daily walk.

She leaves her two children, John J. “J.J.” Velozo, and Tiana M. “Tia” Velozo, former husband, Scott W. Velozo, all of Methuen, her father, Jack C. Baker, and brother, Raymond Baker, both of Fremont, NH, and her foster family, Barbara and William Debartolomeo, of Newton, NH, and Betty and Jimmy Bastarache, of Haverhill.

Mary A. (DeSando) Jacques, 93

Haverhill, MA - Mary A. (DeSando) Jacques, 93, passed away at the Stevens-Bennett Nursing Home in Haverhill, on August 8, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born on November 20, 1917 in Haverhill, to Nicola and Mary (Cortese) DeSando. She attended local Bradford schools and graduated form Haverhill High School in 1935. She married her high school sweetheart, Roland Jacques in 1939 and they were married for 57 years.

Mary worked in the offices of the shoe factories of Haverhill and often modeled sample shoes manufactured in Haverhill and was sent all over the world. In later years she worked in the business office of Bradford Junior College.

After retirement, she and her husband spent many years in Florida. Mary Returned to the Haverhill area after her husband passed away, to be closer to her family. She will be remembered for her skills in cooking and baking, her love for reading, and a fondness for butterflies. Mary will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Eric J. Stevenson, 43

Haverhill, MA - Eric J. Stevenson, 43, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, August 9 at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Tewksbury, he was the son of Thomas D. Stevenson and Donna M. (Barry). He attended Tewksbury Public Schools and was a Graduate of Tewksbury High School, Class of 1985.

Born a natural musician, his musical talents were extraordinary. Throughout his life his music grew with him. He started young; playing in local bands with his brother, Kevin, and would eventually tour with the band “Only Living Witness” throughout the United States and Europe. A gifted singer and songwriter, he would produce his own CD, entitled, “Dead Horse Town” in which he plays every instrument. He was employed as a technician for Herley Industries Inc, in Woburn. For the past four years however, he enjoyed the most fulfilling job of his life; being a stay at home dad and taking care of his young son, Thomas.

He leaves his beloved wife, Cheryl A. (Anderson) and cherished son, Thomas James, his parents, Thomas D. Stevenson and his significant other, Kathy Goss, of Tewksbury, mother, Donna M. Stevenson and her significant other, Paul Richard, of Hudson, NH, brother, Kevin P. Stevenson, of Tewksbury, mother in law, Pauline Anderson, of Haverhill, brothers and sisters in law, William and Melissa Anderson, of Lawrence, and Donna and John Blanchard, of Littleton, NH, aunts and uncles, Nancy and Donald Johnston, Dianne and James Kelley, Patricia and Robert Petitpas, a niece, Laura Hartman, and several cousins, all of whom will miss him dearly along with his quick wit and great sense of humor.

Sandown, NH, - Linda M. (Payne) Heaton, 72, of Haverhill, died Sunday, August 7, at the Kindred Hospital in Peabody, surrounded by her loving family after an illness.

Born in the Ward Hill section of Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Leslie and Marion (Cate) Payne. She attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1957. Living in Derry, NH, for twenty years, she returned to Haverhill one year ago.

For over thirty years, Mrs. Heaton was employed as a Tester at the former A T & T / Lucent Technologies in North Andover. A lover of country music, she and her late husband, Norman enjoyed square dancing and followed the local New Hampshire Band, “Pony Express” they were avid campers and stayed at the Wildwood Camp Ground in New Boston, New Hampshire.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she enjoyed nothing more than being in the company of her family. The widow of Norman F. Heaton, who died in 2002, she leaves her four daughters, Diana L. Labrecque, of Lee, NH, Barbara A. Lord, of Haverhill, Laurene J. Allore, and her husband, Robert, of Fremont, NH, and Karen L. and her husband Glenn Riley, also of Haverhill, grandchildren, Melissa, Sarah, and Wayne Lord, Michelle and Vanessa Labrecque, and Jessica, Adam, and Brianna Levielle, and seven great grandchildren. Haverhill, MA - Marie Claire Goudreault, 81, North Carolina, formerly of Haverhill, died Monday, August 1, 2011.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, William J. and Irene A. (Legare) Wedge. She was a Graduate of St. James Grammar School and St. James High Schools, Class of 1948.

She along with her husband, Edward P. Goudreault Jr, owned and operated Goudreault’s Oil Company and later, Goudreault’s Honda, located in Haverhill for many years until her retirement in 1982.

The widow of Edward P. Goudreault Jr, who died in 1976, she leaves a son Philip E. Goudreault and his wife, Adrienne, of North Carolina, a daughter Theresa G. Kyrios and her husband Ted, of Amesbury, two grandchildren, Michael and Corinne Goudreault, two brothers, D. George Wedge, of LA, and James Wedge, of AZ, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, William Wedge.

A memorial funeral service for Mrs. Goudreault was held in North Carolina. A private committal service will be held in the family lot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Haverhill. Rosena “Ena” (McNulty) Bradshaw

Haverhill, MA - Rosena “Ena” (McNulty) Bradshaw, of Haverhill, a native of Northern Ireland, in her ninetieth year, died Monday, August 8, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a lengthy illness.

A person of strong faith, she was a devoted member of St. James Parish. She volunteered at the BINGO game nights, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. James #436.

The title “Mother” was her vocation and passion, she selflessly gave to her children. We thank God for the blessing she was to us. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, hospitality, and lasting friendships. Always a loving smile would greet you and any new person was a friend you hadn’t made yet.

Vincent A. DeSimone, 91

Haverhill, MA - Vincent A. DeSimone, 91, of Haverhill, died Sunday, August 7, at his home after being stricken ill suddenly.

Born in Haverhill, he was the only son of the late, Vincenzo and Pasqualina “Bessie” (Bevilacqua) DeSimone. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1938. He then furthered his education by attending McIntosh Business School in Boston. He was a lifelong member of St. James Parish and member of St. James Holy Name Society. His other memberships included the Haverhill Elks, and Haverhill Country Club. He served as House Committee Chairman at the country club and was instrumental in the planning and rebuilding after a fire in the 1960’s.

For over sixty years, Mr. DeSimone was employed in the local paper industry. The majority of his career was spent in sales for the Star Paper Company in Haverhill; and still working at the age of 91. He was most recently employed with the J. Stone Paper Company in Lynn.

A man devoted to his faith and family, he was the widower of Margaret M. (Rice) who died in 2007. He leaves his beloved daughters and their husbands, Patricia D. and John E. “Jack” Halloran, and Joanne M. and Joseph J. Giampa, all of Haverhill, cherished grandchildren, Adria Durkin and her husband Richard, of Atkinson, NH, and Anthony Giampa and his wife, Jennifer, of Chelmsford, great grandchildren, Jake and Jared Durkin, and Avalena and Natalia Giampa. He was predeceased by his uncle, Francis Bevilacqua.

Born and educated in Nova Scotia, Canada, she was the daughter of the late, Carl and Elise Manuge. She and her former husband moved to the United Sates and settled in Groveland where they raised their family. She then relocated to Lawrence and finally Sandown, NH. Early in her career, she was employed as a Dietician at the former Burke Hospital in Lawrence. She later was employed as an Operator for New England Telephone.

Nana, as she was known, was the center of the universe for her family, she enjoyed nothing more than spending time hosting family gatherings. She loved the beach, and wore a year round tan, she was a great cook, enjoyed gardening, knitting, and had a great sense of humor. She was fiercely independent and had a sassy side known to those close to her.

The widow of George Morin, who died in 1989, she leaves her beloved family, sons, Michael R. Poirier, of Toronto, Canada, and Daniel J. Poirier, of Sandown, NH, with whom she resided, daughters, Judith Brown and her husband David, of Nova Scotia, Canada, Paulette S. Noel, of Haverhill, and Cheryl A. Born in Haverhill, July 6, 1991, he was the son of Peter M. Rutkauskas and Brenda J. (Borges) Foster. Raised in the Bradford section of Haverhill, he attended the Greenleaf, Bradford Elementary, and Hunking Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 2009. He was a young man with a dare devil personality who was loved by many.

In addition to his loving parents, he leaves a sister, Jessica L. Foster, of Haverhill, paternal grandfather, Joseph F. Robert A. Foucault, 77

Haverhill, MA - Robert A. Foucault, 77, of the Bradford section of Haverhill, died Tuesday, August 2, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Haverhill, March 15, 1934, the son of the late, Arthur and Augustine (Petit) Foucault. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1952. A Korean War Veteran, Bob enlisted into the Navy shortly after graduation, he then would proudly serve for the next four years until his honorable discharge in 1956. He returned to his studies and earned his Degree in Accounting at Bentley College.

Mr. Foucault was employed as a Systems Analyst for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts for over twenty years in the Boston office. He then became a consultant for Pentucket Medical Associates here in Haverhill, and would work seasonally for the Internal Revenue Service in Andover.

During his spare time he enjoyed bowling and was a member of the St. Joseph’s Bowling League for over fifty years. He was always puttering around his house, making new projects for himself, and worked tirelessly on researching his family tree.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he leaves his beloved wife of forty-five years, Dorothy E. (Comeau) Foucault, of Bradford, two daughters, Deborah E. Foucault Etheridge and her husband Aris, of Leverett, MA, and Darlene E. Osterman, of Haverhill, cherished grandchildren, Tabitha E. Bartlett, and her husband Allen Jr, Marc A. Camarato, Warren D. Osterman, Aiden Foucault Etheridge, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Arthur A. Foucault, Richard N. Foucault, and Helen V. Pleau.

Born in Haverhill, December 24, 1958, she was the daughter of Othel J. and Maryrose (Montisanti) Brammer. She attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1977.

A devoted mother and grandmother, she was a foster mother and caregiver to many children throughout the Haverhill area. Dedicated to the well being of any child; she was associated with the Community Action Program in Haverhill for over twenty years.

In addition to her parents, she leaves her beloved husband of twenty one years, Richard F. Beauregard, a son Matthew R. Beauregard, two daughters, Samantha L. (West) and her husband Chuck Garlington, and Nicole R. Beauregard, all of Haverhill, a brother, James O. Brammer and his wife Shelly, of Bradford, a sister Cindy A. Edwiga (Balukiewicz) Rovinski, 91

Haverhill-Edwiga (Balukiewicz) Rovinski, 91 of Haverhill, died Monday, July 25, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.

Edwiga was born in Haverhill on February 15, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Sophie (Repka) Balukiewicz. She was a Graduate of Haverhill High School Class of 1938 and later studied cosmetology. As a hairdresser, she owned and operated Eddie’s Beauty Salon in Riverside for over twenty-five years.

Mrs. Rovinski was very active in her youth in the former St. Michael’s Parish in Haverhill. Moving to the Riverside section of Haverhill she raised her family and became involved in St. John the Baptist Parish, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the America’s Court St. James #436. She moved to Michigan in 1999 and returned to the Haverhill area two years ago.

The widow of John “Yarno” Rovinski, who died in 1994, she leaves her beloved sons, Richard J. and his wife, Debra L. (Klier), of Methuen, and Michael E. and his wife, Kimberly (Kopko), of, Franklin, MI, five cherished grandchildren, Audra Rovinski Dellinger and her husband Brad, of Charlotte, NC, Adam Rovinski, of Methuen, Alex, Andrew, and Austin Rovinski, of Michigan, and a great grandson, Harrison Dellinger. Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of Richard A. and Fannie Mae (Engstrom) Hodgkins. She attended Lawrence Regional Technical Institute of Nursing and was certified as an L.P.N. in advanced pediatric care.

Ms. Smith was employed as a private duty nurse for Shriver Nursing, serving patients with dignified care for many years until her illness forced her into an early retirement three years ago.

A devoted mother, loving daughter, sister, and aunt, along with her parents, she leaves her five cherished children, Justin A. Smith, of Methuen, Brandon J. John Patrick DiBurro Jr

Haverhill, MA - John Patrick DiBurro Jr.- AKA “Big John”, of Haverhill, died Saturday, July 9, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Josephine (Auriemma) and the late John P. DiBurro Sr., raised in the Bradford section of Haverhill, he attended public schools, and Haverhill Trade School, where he excelled in the machine trade.

Although Big John’s life ended at a young age, his accomplishments were many. Beginning his career as a heavy equipment operator, he became a successful businessman as owner of Big Boy’s Toys, and Big Boy’s Truck Equipment and Classics, in Plaistow, NH. As a machinist and mechanic, he was an avid car enthusiast, whether it be collecting and restoring classics, or racing street stock. Big John was well known in the local racing circuit, racing at the Pine’s Speedway, Hudson, Lee, and Star Speedways. In the beginning he was team 290 and later was driver for Team #9 New Hampshire.

A devoted son, husband, brother and father, he leaves his wife of twenty-eight years, Sharon E. (Trainor) DiBurro, RN, his mother, Josephine (Auriemma) DiBurro, of Bradford, a sister, Joan H. DiBurro-Kopps, and her husband, George, of Haverhill, a brother, Joseph P. DiBurro, of Bradford, a daughter, Kristina, step children, John Burnham, of Concord, NH, Jennifer Burnham-Landry, of Canterberry, NH, and Jeffrey Burnham, of Gilmanton, NH, six cherished grandchildren, Matthew Landry, Alex, Anthony, Aidan, and Autumn Burnham, and Gabriel, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Widowed at a young age, her husband, William H. Morse Sr, died in 1974. A devoted mother, and grandmother, she raised her children in a loving environment. She loved fishing, hunting, playing BINGO, and was known for her great sense of humor.

Born in Malden, December 12, 1932, he was the son of the late, Harold P. Strand, Sr., and Margaret (Vidler). He attended Malden Public Schools and was a Graduate of Malden High School and standout rifleman of the class of 1951. He and his wife would move to Wilmington to raise their children and later relocate to Ipswich, and finally Salem, NH, for the last five years.

Mr. Strand was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Nothing came before family. A well respected businessman, he was the owner, C.E.O., and “chief wizard” of his surplus electronics company, Parker Products, located in Reading; a natural born inventor and salesman, he could upcycle anything and is noted to be an early influencer of solar experimentation through his educational solar kits and solar demonstration music boxes. He was a respectful, thoughtful, and generous individual; he had a humorous wit, and will be missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to come in contact with him.

He leaves his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Barbara A. (Minchin) Strand, of Salem, NH, two sons, Robert,of Billerica, David and his wife Kathleen,of Plum Island, two daughters, Judith DeMellia, and her husband, Michael, of Haverhill, and Pamela Strand, also of Haverhill, seven cherished grandchildren, James and Laura Strand, Kristen Cook, Tara and Michael DeMellia, Jr., and Olivia Strand, two great-grandchildren, Jack and Aiden, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Beane.

James Edward Saulnier Jr, 57

Atkinson, NH - James Edward Saulnier Jr, 57, of Atkinson, NH, died Wednesday, June 22, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness.

Born in Evergreen Park, Illinois, he was the son of James E. Saulnier Sr. and Ursula S. (Striet). He attended public schools in Illinois and was a Graduate of Downers Grove High School, class of 1971.

Mr. Saulnier was employed by the White Hen Pantry Stores Chain for twenty-five years, transferring to this area in 1976. For the past fifteen years he was employed as a truck driver for the Advanced Textiles and Linens Co. in Lawrence.

A devoted husband and father, he was known for his great sense of humor. He enjoyed a friendly card game, and hosted a weekly game with his friends for the past twenty years. A fan of hockey and NASCAR, he was glad to see his favorite teams, the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup last year and his local Bruins win it this year.

In addition to his parents, he leaves his beloved wife of thirty-four years, Dawn S. (Dlugosz) Saulnier, of Atkinson, a son, Aaron J. “AJ” Saulnier, also of Atkinson, a daughter, Tara E. Saulnier, of North Adams, MA, three brothers, Russell M. Saulnier and his wife, Larisa, of Reno, NV, Scott K. Saulnier, also of Reno, NV, Michael W. and his wife Diane, of Naperville, IL, and nieces and nephews.

Lois Mae (Chambers) Sannella, 74

Haverhill, MA – Lois Mae (Chambers) Sannella, 74, of Haverhill, died Thursday, June 2, at the Merrimac Valley Hospital in Haverhill after being stricken ill suddenly at home.

Born in Portsmouth, NH, she was the daughter of the late, Eugene and Blanche (Small) Chambers. She attended Haverhill public schools and Haverhill High School.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Sannella was primarily a homemaker until her husband, the late, Richard C. Sannella Sr. passed away in 1986. She then began her career of twenty years in the environmental services department of Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Haverhill.

She was an avid reader and loved animals; as she never refused a stray animal a loving home.

She leaves a son, Richard C. Sannella Jr, two daughters, Tina M. Sannella, and Sherry A. Sannella, all of Haverhill, and a granddaughter, Sarah A. Sannella.

Debra Ann (Budrow) Durgin, 53

Haverhill, MA – Debra Ann (Budrow) Durgin, 53, of Haverhill, died Friday, May 27, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Barre, Vermont, she was the daughter of Winifred (Barnard) Budrow- Hartford and the late; Robert A. Budrow.

During the span of her career, Mrs. Durgin was employed in the transportation field, as a driver for MacGregor-Smith Bus Co., and a dispatcher for B&M Taxi in Haverhill. She was also employed as a clerk at Store 24.

She lived to care for her children, grandchildren, and family. She enjoyed listening to country music.

She leaves her sons, Ronald W. Durgin Jr, and Christopher M. Durgin, a daughter, Rebecca J. Durgin, her mother, Winifred Hartford, a sister, Brenda J. Kumis and her husband, Donald, brothers, Steven M. Budrow, Richard F. Hartford, all of Haverhill, and Aaron J. Hartford, of FL, seven grandchildren, Jilleen, Destiny, Tyrah, Hailye, Ronald W.III, Christopher, and Seth Marcotte, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Brian A. Hartford.

Haverhill, MA - David Raymond Guard, 54, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Haverhill, died Saturday, May 28, at the home of his brother, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Sheila (Boland) and the late, Dr. J. Edward Guard. He attended Haverhill public schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1974 and attended Northern Essex Community College.

A resident of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the past twenty-two years, he was a self employed plumbing contractor as well as the proprietor of the “Grumpy Scoopa” an ice cream stand that he ran for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, gardening, camping, and working in his yard.

He is survived by his mother, Sheila H. (Boland) Guard-Facella, of Methuen, two daughters, Jessica A. Carey and her husband, John F., of Newton, NH, and Sarah M. Guard, of Amesbury, a son, Kevin J. Doherty, of Lansdale, PA, a brother, Christopher T. Guard and his spouse, David F. Maroon, of Methuen, two sisters, Maureen A. Guard, of Sumter, SC, and Alicia B. Mazza and her partner James C. Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Crystal (Bonnell) Allard, and the late William T. McCarthy, and step son to David C. Parshley. He was educated in Haverhill Public Schools and attended Haverhill High School.

A man with many talents, he was a gifted drummer. He was employed as a computer programmer, contracting with many local companies in the Merrimack Valley. He also worked alongside his father and brother at McCarthy Home Improvements. Recently he was taking courses to become a chef

Norene M. (Crites) Harrington, 78

Haverhill, MA – Norene M. (Crites) Harrington, 78, of Merrimac, formerly of Haverhill, died Thursday, April 28, at the Hannah Duston Health Care in Haverhill, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief illness.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Albert E. and Mary (Burke) Crites. Raised and educated in the “Acre” section of the city, she was a lifelong member of St. James Parish. She attended both St. James Grammar School and St. James High School, graduating with the Class of 1950. She then attended St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Boston and received her Registered Nurse Certification in 1953.

Although she resided in Merrimac for the past six years, her heart never left the “Acre” and the family home on 13th Ave where she and her husband Dan spent over fifty years. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse, Norene used her nursing skills for many summers at Camp Sea Haven on Plum Island as she and her husband, Dan ran the camp for children afflicted with polio and other conditions. Throughout her career, she was employed at the former Hale Hospital, various local nursing homes, as a private duty nurse, and the Haverhill Housing Authority.

She leaves her beloved husband of fifty-seven years, Daniel R. Harrington Jr, of Haverhill, two sons, Michael D. Harrington, of Ossipee, NH, and Daniel R. Harrington III, of Frisco, CO, daughters, Ann M. and her husband, Chuck A. Lagasse, of Newburyport, MA, Susan M. Harrington, of Haverhill, Maura K. and her husband, Mark A. Flaherty, of Boston, Jane E. and her husband Chuck Murray, of Groveland, and Amy M. and her husband, Steve Solomon, of Marblehead, a sister, Dorothy M. William B. Welch, 65

Amesbury, MA - William B. Welch, 65, of Amesbury, formerly of Haverhill, died Monday, April 25, 2011 at Hannah Duston Health Care in Haverhill after a lengthy illness.

Born and educated in Haverhill, he was the son of Eleanor F. (Hurteau) and the late William A. Welch. He was a graduate of both, St. James Grammar and St. James High School, Class of 1963. After completing two years at Merrimack College, he enlisted into the U.S. Army. A Vietnam Veteran, he served in Army Intelligence. Upon his return from the war, he married his sweetheart, Gayle F. Dow and relocated to Amesbury. He continued his education and received his Degree from the University of New Hampshire.
For over thirty-six years, Mr. Welch was employed with American Airlines, at Logan Airport in Boston, retiring in 2008. He loved sports; he enjoyed playing golf, and was an avid traveler.

A devoted husband and father, he leaves his beloved wife of thirty-eight years, Gayle F. (Dow) Welch, of Amesbury, a son Jesse M. Welch and his wife, Judith A. (Thompson), of Rochester, NH, a daughter, Vanessa L. Welch and her fiancé, Samson Michaels, of South Boston, his mother, Eleanor F. Janine I. (Gendreau) Ringland, 72

Haverhill, MA – Janine I. (Gendreau) Ringland, 72, of Haverhill, formerly of Groveland, died Thursday, April 21, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, MA, surrounded by her loving family, after a two year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born in Canaan, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late, Hermas and Marie (Garon) Gendreau. Educated in Vermont, she was a Graduate of Canaan High School, class of 1955. She then attended Trinity College in Burlington, Vermont, and upon Graduation began her career in Boston. She and her husband, David, raised their family in Groveland, moving there in 1965, and relocated to Haverhill in 1987.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Ringland was also a career woman. Leaving the Vermont farm, she was first employed as a secretary for the Hearthstone Insurance Co in Boston. For the next forty years she was employed as a Legal Secretary, twenty-five of them for Snell and Associates in Wakefield, and fifteen years at the Shyavitz & Shyavitz law firm, in Haverhill. Never time to sit still, when the children were in school she used her secretarial skills to work for the councilor’s office at Pentucket High School, and nights for Haverhill-Lawrence Trucking Co. in Haverhill.

She leaves her beloved husband of fifty-three years, David M. Ringland Sr, of Haverhill, three sons, David M. Ringland Jr, and his wife, Anna, of Claremont, FL, Scott W. Ringland and his wife, Marybeth (Horan), of Methuen, Brian J. Ringland, and his wife, Beth, of Jacksonville, FL, a daughter, Michelle M. and her husband, David Dalton, of Derry, NH, six cherished grandchildren, Brandon, Brent, Bethany, Stephanie, and Lauren Ringland, and Katherine Dalton, two brothers, Richard Gendreau and his wife, Patricia, of Colchester, VT, Jules Gendreau and his wife, Gail, of Albany, NY, a sister in law, Jan Gendreau, of Waterbury, VT, and several nieces and nephews. Richard J. Noel, 81

Hampton, NH, - Richard J. Noel, 81, of Hampton, NH, formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday, April 17, at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, Martin E. and Lillian (Fredette) Noel. He attended Haverhill public schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1949. A Korean War Veteran, Richard enlisted into the United States Army where he would proudly serve and gain experience in the nursing field. After an honorable discharge, Mr. Noel continued his education at Merrimack College, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Social Services.

Mr. Noel was employed as an Orderly at the former Hale Hospital in Haverhill before moving into Social Services for the State of Massachusetts. He would spend most of his career working in the Haverhill office of transitional assistance, retiring in 1995.

A man blessed with a strong faith, he was involved deeply in the church and the community of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Hampton, NH.

He leaves nieces and nephews, dear friends and caregivers, including, Donna Murphy, of Lakeville, MA, Jonathan McCoy, of Portsmouth, NH, and David and Elaine Hagen, of Hampton, NH.

Donald Joseph Winkowski, 67

Plaistow, NH – Donald Joseph Winkowski, 67, of Plaistow, NH, formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday, April 10, at the Lawrence General Hospital after being stricken ill suddenly at home.

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late, Benny and Anna (Walsh) Winkowski. His family relocated to Haverhill as a child where he would attend Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1961. He furthered his education at the Berwick Academy and went on to continue at Merrimack College, receiving his Bachelor's Degree.

Mr. Winkowski enlisted into the Marine Corps Reserve and proudly served from 1966 until 1972, earning the organized Marine Corps Reserve Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and Medal for Good Conduct.
For over thirty-six years, Mr. Winkowsi was employed by Raytheon in Andover as a payroll supervisor, retiring in 2004.

As he and his wife, Judith were "snowbirds" they would enjoy their winters together in Briney Breeze, FL, and enjoy summers on Lake Winnipesauke, where he enjoyed serving as President of the Yacht Cub Vista Condo Association. Loving nature's beauty, he enjoyed fishing and boating.

He leaves his beloved wife of forty- two years, Judith Ann (Collins) Winkowski, of Plaistow, a son, Darren M. Winkowski, and his close friend, Jessica L. Connelly, of Bradford, two brothers, Robert and his wife Ann Marie Winkowski, of Dunstable, and Thomas S. and his wife Teresa Winkowski, of Clifton, VA, two grandchildren, Trysta J. Winkowski, and Tyler J.M. Connelly, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Elaine O'Connor.

Haverhill, MA - Peter Michael Gaff Jr, 52, of Haverhill, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at his home.

Born in Boston, he was the son of Peter M. Gaff Sr. and the late, Kitty F. (Nault).

He attended Haverhill public schools and Whittier Regional Vocational High School. Following high school he enlisted into the U.S.Army where he would proudly serve from 1979 until his honorable discharge in 1983.
A self employed carpenter, he owned and operated Mike's Window and Floor Co.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, mountain biking, camping and nature. A passion he shared with his father was that of training championship homing and rolling pigeons.

Besides his father, he leaves two daughters, Angela M. Gaff, of Haverhill, and Jennifer Shea, of Plaistow, NH, two sons, Michael W. Gaff, of Amesbury, and Nathan Gaff, of Haverhill, two brothers, Glenn R. Gaff, of Ocala, FL, and Scott Gaff, of Haverhill, sisters, Deborah A. Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Harvey J. and Mary (Rice) Verrette. She attended St. James Grammar School and was a Graduate of St. James High School, Class of 1963.
Mrs. Parker began her career in the restaurant business. She was a waitress and bookkeeper for Maggie’s Restaurant in North Andover. For the past forty years, along with her late husband Dick Parker, owned and operated Parker’s Antiques located on River Street in Haverhill.
They enjoyed a lasting partnership together, and when the season came they would travel. They followed thoroughbred racing, and for summer vacation they would spend time at Saratoga, New York, and for winter vacation, they would go to Gulfstream Park in Florida. She cared for her husband Richard through his illness of which he succumbed to in December of 2009, and at the same time she was scheduling her own appointments of treatment for her illness. They are now reunited for eternity.

She leaves her beloved family, a daughter, Christine M. Wilson and her husband, Melvin, of Weare, NH, a stepson, Mark S. Parker, and his wife, Tracy, of Haverhill, two brothers, John P’ “Jack” Verrette and his wife Patricia (Gibney) of West Newbury, and Michael J. and his wife, Robin (Knipe), of Haverhill, cherished grandchildren, David C. Wilson, Jerrilyn J. Wilson, Steven M. Parker, Katelyn N. Parker, Cathy Carey cousin and life long friend, nieces and nephews.

Cecilia Dorothy (LaBranche) Lowes, 88

Haverhill, MA – Cecilia Dorothy (LaBranche) Lowes, 88, of Haverhill, died Thursday, April 7, at the Wingate at Haverhill Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Joseph H. and Dora M. (Stranch) LaBranche. She attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1941. She was a devote member of St. John the Baptist Church and proud to be part of it since the parish was founded.

An avid traveler, Mrs. Lowes, met and married her late husband, Matthew A. Lowes while he was serving in the marine Corp. As newlyweds she traveled with him from base to base as she was involved in service support organizations. She would return to Haverhill while he husband was shipped off to serve during WWII.

Ms. Lowes was employed as an Administrative Secretary for City of Haverhill School Department, retiring in 1978. She loved to travel, and was an avid reader.

The widow of Matthew A. Lowes who died in 1987, she leaves her daughter, Cecilia D., her husband, Charles E. “Chip” Hubbard, and their children, Cecilia Collins, and Charles E. “Chuck” Jr, all of Haverhill, a son Matthew J. Lowes, his wife, Sandra, and their children, Michelle Dawson, and Matthew Lowes, of Manchester, NH, two brothers, Dr. Victor LaBranche, of Haverhill, and F. Peter LaBranche and his wife Lorraine (Cote), also of Haverhill, a daughter in law, Dianna L. (Morrill) Lowes, of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, David F. Lowes, her brother, Joseph LaBranche, and companion, William Lowes.

Haverhill, MA - Dana F. Wolfe, 57, of Haverhill, formerly of Derry and Gloucester, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at his home.

Born in Gloucester, he was the son of the late, Francis R. and Doris H. (Peterson) Wolfe. He attended Gloucester public schools and was a Graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1971, and attended Northeastern University.

Mr. Wolfe was a founding partner of APEX Manufacturing Co. in Essex, MA.

Kenneth Everett Quimby Sr, 75

Haverhill, MA - Kenneth Everett Quimby Sr, 75, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, April 5, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, William E. and Margaret E. (Tuttle) Quimby. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and Haverhill Trade School. A Veteran of the U.S. Navy, he proudly served from January 1955 until his honorable discharge in December 1958.
Mr. Quimby was employed in manufacturing at the former Western Electric for ten years before becoming a firefighter in the Haverhill Fire Department. He served the City of Haverhill for twenty-eight years, retiring in 2000.

He leaves his two sons, former Haverhill City Councilor, Kenneth E. Quimby Jr, and Gary W. Quimby, both of Haverhill, a daughter and son in law, Patricia A. and Jerry Baldwin, of Austin, TX, former wife, Alice E. (Darmody) Iannalfo, of Haverhill, a granddaughter, Elizabeth H. Baldwin, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Priscilla Barton and Norma Noyes.

Simonne Lucienne (Rochette) Laine, 83

Haverhill, MA – Simonne Lucienne (Rochette) Laine, 83, of Haverhill, formerly of Lawrence, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born and educated in Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late, Albert and Noella (Picard) Rochette.
Moving to Lawrence, she attended Lawrence High School where she studied for and received her Naturalized Citizenship in the United States. She was employed in the local shoe industry, and worked in the lasting rooms of the Lawrence Maid Shoe Company and the Cardinal Shoe Company. She then went to work at the former Bon Secours Hospital in Methuen. Employed in the housekeeping department, she would retire in 1992 after twelve years of service.

For the past five years, Mrs. Laine was a resident at the Haverhill Crossing Assisted Living Community. She had a generous personality, always wanting to give to others, she loved animals, and kept cats and birds.

She leaves her daughter and son in law, Carole S. and Robert C. Beede, of Londonderry, NH, two grandchildren, Robin Wright, and Deborah Hardy, a sister, Yolande Rochette, of Quebec, Canada, and nieces and nephews.

Haverhill, MA - Georgette M. (Blanchette) Thomas, 87, of Haverhill, died Thursday, March 24, at the Oxford Nursing Home in Haverhill, after an illness.

Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late, Oscar and Helen (Lacailade) Blanchette. She has resided in Haverhill for many years.

She was predeceased by her brother, “Bud” Blanchette, and sisters, Lorraine Labell-Longo, and Sylvia Webb.

Gerald M. Godfrey, 87

Haverhill, MA - Gerald M. Godfrey, 87, of Seabrook Beach, New Hampshire, formerly of Haverhill, died Monday, March 21, at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NH, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late, Michael and Delia (Fitzgerald) Godfrey. Moving to Haverhill, he attended Haverhill Public Schools and Haverhill Trade School. Leaving Trade School early, he then went to work at the Todd-Bath Shipbuilding Company in South Portland, ME for the next fourteen months and was soon inducted into the US Navy. A WWII Veteran, he proudly served from August 1943 until February 1946 as a Gunner’s Mate Third Class. During his tour of duty, he was assigned to the USS John F. Appleby, and the USS Waxhaus, and received the America Theatre Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.

Mr. Godfrey was employed by the City of Haverhill as a member of the Haverhill Fire Department. He served the City for over thirty years retiring in 1981. When he had off time his second career was that of a plumber, although he was handy in multiple trades.

He was a member of the George Maxfield VFW Post 1772, Rochester, NH, and Lorraine Post 29, Haverhill, and the Moose Lodge, Palm Beach, FL.

Along with his late wife, Helen M. (Goudreault) they spent their retirement years at their second home on Seabrook Beach, New Hampshire, and wintered in, Florida.

He leaves his two sons, Dennis P. Godfrey, of Haverhill, Mark P. Godfrey, and his wife, Shelly, of Glenville, NY, two daughters, Susanne J. Uzdavinis, and her husband Thomas M., of Atkinson, NH, and Lisa M. Ball, and her husband, Gregory, of Rochester, NH, ten grandchildren, Amy M. Hamel, and her husband, Paul, Megan Arivella and her husband Todd, Nolan P. Godfrey, Logan Godfrey, Cassandra Ball, Mark G. Godfrey, and his wife Val, Cole Godfrey, Chase Godfrey, Jordyn Godfrey, and Janaye Godfrey, four great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Christina Hamel, and Brogan and Cadence Arivella, three brothers, Edward and his wife Carolyn, of Haverhill, John and his wife Patricia, of Raymond, NH, and Raymond, of Amesbury, a sister, Theresa Wentworth, of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews. Michael Joseph Horgan, 63

Haverhill, MA - Michael Joseph Horgan, 63, of Haverhill, died Saturday, March 19 at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late, Thomas J. and Mary C. (Chabott) Horgan. Growing up in Concord, Massachusetts, his family relocated to North Andover, where he would attend North Andover public schools and graduate from North Andover High School, Class of 1965.

Upon graduation he would start his long career with Western Electric and Lucent Technologies. He attended Northern Essex Community College and Merrimack College. Working in the engineering and design lab of the company, he specialized in Electrical Drafting. He spent thirty-nine years with Lucent leaving in 2004. He then went to work for MA/COM Company in Lowell until his illness forced him into early retirement in June 2010.

A devout husband, and father, Mr. Horgan, met his loving life, Linda J. (Perreault); they married in 1970, and moved to Haverhill. He and his wife were members of the Bradford Swim Club. As their children developed, his involvement with their swimming programs and careers did as well. At the swim club he held many positions and took an active role in any and all of its endeavors. Subsequently, he became heavily involved in several Haverhill High School Swim teams, the Haverhill Recreation Department, the Haverhill YMCA Swim team, and served as President of the Summer Aquatic League. He was also a member of the Eastern Massachusetts Swimming Officials Association, and St. James Church. Being an outdoor person, he was always tending to his garden, picking blueberries, and spending time on the golf course. Along with his wife, he enjoyed traveling, and was never too far from the sun and sand.

He leaves his beloved wife of forty years, Linda J. (Perreault) Horgan, of Haverhill, a son, Gregory M. Horgan, of Washington, DC, a daughter, Allyson M. Horgan, of Newton, MA, a sister and brother in law, Cheryl A. (Horgan) and John A. Reade, of North Andover, and nieces and nephews.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Alfred A. and Dorothy F. (Cadorette) Smith. She attended Haverhill public schools and Haverhill High School.

Ms. Smith was employed as a secretary at a local law firm and later at Temple Emanu-El in Haverhill. She enjoyed attending the local fairs, and had a special place in her heart for all animals.

She leaves her companion of seventeen years, John E. Zipco, of Haverhill, two sons, Joshua, and Jason Coito, also of Haverhill, a twin brother, Neal A. Smith, aunts, Evelyn Slavit, and Elizabeth Villers, and an uncle, William Smith, and several cousins.

Ryan William Neumann, 22

Haverhill, MA - Ryan William Neumann, 22, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the University of Massachusetts Hospital in Worcester, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Haverhill, he leaves his parents; Harold A. Bennett, Raelene C. Corthell, and Robert T. Neumann. He attended Haverhill public schools and was a Graduate of Whittier Vocational High School, Class of 2006, where his studies included Telecommunications.

Ryan was employed as an I.T. Professional for the Ondemand Communications Group Inc., in Woburn, MA. He enjoyed his work, and the people he worked with. He loved music, hiking, and snowboarding, and was a talented self taught musician. Being a “Techno Geek” he produced and mixed his own electronic music and tricked –out his car with high tech extras. A happy man, he had nothing but positive energy, and shared it with his family, friends and anyone he had contact with.

Besides his mother, and fathers, he leaves two brothers, Donovan J. Neumann, and Camdon A. Neumann, his beloved girlfriend of five years, Katherine M. O’Dowd, of Bradford, grandparents, Richard and Judith (Auclair) Neumann, William Ammells, Donna-Lee Corthell, all of Haverhill, and Donald Gates, of Amherst, NH, and Patricia Gates, of Sierra Vista, AZ, great grandmother, Mary Lloyd and aunts, uncles and cousins, and his best friend, black lab “Tessie”,who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his uncle, Billy Ammells in 2002.

Haverhill, MA – Marilyn K. (LaPierre) Thornhill, 80, of Epping, formerly of Atkinson, NH and Haverhill, died Tuesday, March 8, at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH, after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Haverhill, and was raised by her late mother and step father, James Linehan and Katherine F. (Wedge). She attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1948. She attended Northern Essex Community College and received her degree in nursing.
As a Registered Nurse, Mrs. Thornhill was employed at a variety of many community hospitals, spending more than twenty years at the former Hale Hospital in Haverhill.

She leaves her eight children, Corliss E. “Chuck” Thornhill Jr and his wife Francine, of Salem, MA, Bruce P. Thornhill, of Nottingham, NH, Mark S. Thornhill, of Texas, James A. “Jay” Thornhill and his wife Donna, of Derry, NH, Katherine M. Dufresne and her husband, Norman, of North Carolina, Deborah A. Janet D. (Damphousse) Graham, 74

Haverhill, MA – Janet D. (Damphousse) Graham, 74, of Haverhill, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at her home, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Charles E. and Loretta C. (Frenier) Damphousse. She attended Haverhill Public Schools and Northern Essex Community College.

Mrs. Graham was a woman of many talents who would not sit still. Her career was varied, she began in the shoe industry of Haverhill; and for fourteen years as she lived in Manchester, CT, she was manager of the Spree Retail Store, relocating back to Haverhill, she was employed at Pub Bennies on the Plaistow line, and also worked at Rod Griffin catering, and Mr. Mike’s Restaurant.

Along with her loving husband, William, she enjoyed their travels throughout the Caribbean. A huge Red Sox fan, the highlight of her life was being invited to the Sky Box at Fenway Park, as a guest of Larry Lucchino and his wife Stacey. She was a known fixture at the Carl Davis Post #34 in Plaistow. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary, as she ran and catered many a benefit for anyone in need and also where she had fond memories of many family gatherings.

She leaves her beloved husband William C. Graham, of Haverhill, two daughters, Deborah L. (Poirier) Atwood, of Haverhill, and Robin M. (Poirier) and her husband Ronald Demetrio, of Chelsea, step children, William, and Michael Graham and Michelle Roland, all of Haverhill, two sisters, a twin, Jean Mitchell, of Haverhill, and Claire and her husband Robert Tebo, of Sebastian, Florida, six cherished grandchildren, Diana Marshall and her husband, Ed, Kimberly and Arielle Atwood, Ronnie, Dana, and Michelle Demetrio, two great grandchildren, Teaghan and Tawny Marshall, longtime friend, Annette Hickey, and much loved nieces and nephews. Haverhill, MA – Pauline A. (Marquis) Cook, 87, of Lyman, Maine, formerly of Bradford, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy illness.

Born in Newton, New Hampshire, she was educated in Newton Public Schools. She was employed as a technician at Western Electric in North Andover for over twenty-six years, retiring in 1982. After retiring she and her husband, William moved to Lyman, Maine, where she enjoyed the surrounding of the rural countryside. She loved solving puzzles, and painting, and her animals.

She leaves her beloved husband of sixty-eight years, William L. Cook, of Lyman, ME, a son, William J. Cook and his wife Sherrie, of Bradford, two daughters, Elzina L. Morse and her husband, Richard, also of Lyman, and Suzanne Beier and her husband, David, of North Port, Florida, eight grandchildren, Christina Lynch, Eric and William Beier, Tracy and Amy Cook, Melissa Martin, and Michelle and Richard Scott Morse, and two great-grandchildren.

Alan R. Mandigo Sr, 57

Haverhill, MA - Alan R. Mandigo Sr, 57, of Haverhill, died Saturday, March 5, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Exeter, NH, he was the son of the late, Clifton A. Mandigo Jr and Noreen (Smart). He was educated in the Exeter Public School System. Upon Graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy, where he served honorably during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Mandigo was employed as a custodian in the environmental services department of the Merrimack Valley Hospital. He enjoyed being part of the Hospital Staff and always greeted patients and fellow members of the hospital community with a smile.
He leaves two sons, Alan R. Mandigo Jr, and his wife Cybelle, of Dover, NH, Charles C. Mandigo, and his wife, Mary, of Danville, NH, two daughters, Terri-Jean Pedato, and her husband, Steven, of Danville, NH, and Shara L. Rogers, of Haverhill, a brother, Stuart Mandigo, of Winter Haven, FL, two sisters, Cherie Daniels, of Dover, NH, and Bonnie White, of Ithaca, NY, twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Shirley Ann (Hamel) Deitrick, 82

Haverhill, MA – Shirley Ann (Hamel) Deitrick, 82, of Haverhill, died Monday, February 28, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill after a brief illness.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Paul E. and Dorothy E. (Ross) Hamel. She attended Haverhill public schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1946.
Primarily a homemaker most of her life, Shirley started her career in the Haverhill shoe industry. She then was employed as a dispatcher at a local Cab Company, and managed a local retail store. She moved to Los Angeles, California, where she lived for fifteen years, later returning to Haverhill.
Shirley was a kind hearted generous woman, well known to her community of friends and neighbors at the Judson House Apartment Complex in Haverhill. A friend of Bill W., she helped many people get back on track who were fighting life’s struggles. She will be sorely missed by all who came to know her.

She leaves two sons, Harlan R. David Burton Turner, 61

Haverhill, MA - David Burton Turner, 61, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, and retired Firefighter, died Sunday, February, 27, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy, courageous battle with leukemia.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, William B. and Alice (Nourse) Turner. He attended Haverhill public schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1968. A Vietnam Veteran, upon his graduation he entered into the United States Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Saratoga.

Devoted to family, country, and his community, he was employed by the City of Haverhill, serving his community as a firefighter for thirty- two years, retiring in 2008. Never one to sit still, as a second job he sold fire equipment for Conway Associates, and Admiral Fire and Safety Co., he volunteered as a cook for the Haverhill daycare Center, in Bradford, and volunteered at the Nubble Light Gift Shop in York Maine. He loved York Beach, and also enjoyed crafting, and collecting signage.

He leaves his beloved wife of thirty-four years, Karen S. (Bushee), two sons, Ryan B. Turner, Michael D. Turner and his wife, Samantha (Pham), a daughter, Jennifer L. Turner, a grandson, Brandon M. Turner, all of Haverhill, three brothers, Stephen Smith and his wife, Linda, of Berwick, ME, William Turner and his wife, Chrystal, of York, ME, Al Turner and his wife Michelle, of Berwick, ME, mother in law, Jean Condon, of Nassau, NY, sister in law, Sun-Cha Smith, of Tucson, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Dana Smith.

David B. Vencis, Jr., 55

Exeter, NH - David B. Vencis, Jr., 55, of Exeter, formerly of Haverhill, MA, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Lawrence, he was the son of David B. Vencis Sr. and Marilyn R. (Dinsmore) Wentworth, and stepson to Richard H. Wentworth. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1973.

Mr. Vencis was devoted not only to his family but also his community. A local businessman, he owned and operated Rockingham Auto Glass. He was a Lieutenant for the Town of Exeter Volunteer Call Fire Department, and was a Den Leader for the Cub Scouts Pack 322. He delivered oil for Hartman Oil Co. and later delivered parts for Walls Lincoln-Mercury of Methuen, Ma and TASCA Automotive Group of Cranston RI. Throughout most of his life he had a passion for auto racing, and was a part of the Bryan Wall Motor Venture Race Team and lived for the sport, a passion that was shared with his whole family.

Besides his parents, he leaves his beloved wife, Caren D. (Moss) Vencis, of Exeter, a son David B. Vencis III, also of Exeter, a daughter Amber L. and her husband Eric R. Sullivan, a grandson, Evan R. Sullivan of Haverhill Ma, three brothers, Robert W. Vencis and his wife Diana J. (Willey) and Richard H. Wentworth Jr. and his wife Paula E. (Pistone), both of Haverhill, David Mancini of Orange County Ca, a sister Lisa A. (Wentworth) Couture, of Salem, NH along with a mother in law, Beverly A. Vincent, brothers in law, Walter Moss, and Kevin Vincent, all of Exeter, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Mark A. Vencis. Haverhill - Tomas “Quino” Rosario, 91, of Haverhill, formerly of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Lawrence General after a brief illness.

Born and educated in Santo Domingo, he was born September 18, 1920, son of the late, Cornelio Rosario and Juana Francisca Hernandez. He immigrated to the United States in 1984 settling in Haverhill, and was employed as a machine operator for the DYTEX Corp.

He leaves his beloved wife of sixty-five years, Nicolasina (Vargas) Rosario, of Haverhill, eight children, Zoila Rosario and her husband Jose, Maria Matias and her husband, Ismael, Miguel Rosario and his wife Polania, Pedro Rosario and his wife, Christine, all of Haverhill, Tomas Rosario and his wife, Altagracia, Felix Rosario and his wife, Maria, Jose Rosario and his wife Quenida, and Rafael Rosario and his wife, Aracelis, all of the Dominican Republic, twenty-four grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Ralph Francis, 61

Haverhill - Ralph Francis, 61, of Haverhill, formerly of North Reading, died Thursday, February 3, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington after a brief illness.

Born in Melrose, he was the son of the late, Ralph and Velma (Eldridge) Francis. He attended North Reading public schools and North Reading High School. A Vietnam Veteran, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Francis was employed as a mechanic, working for local contractors in the Merrimack Valley area. He enjoyed cooking, cross bow hunting, and caring for his fish in his Koi pond.

He leaves his son, Charles J. “CJ” Francis, of Haverhill, a sister, Theresa Fuller, and her husband Gerald, of Winter Haven, FL, a brother, Michael Francis and his wife Donna, of Sandown, NH, close friends with whom he lived, Richard and Deanna Holsinger, of Haverhill, and nieces and nephews.

Groveland – Patricia A. (Oickle) DeMaris, of Groveland, formerly of Haverhill, died Wednesday, February 2, at the Wingate at Haverhill nursing home after a courageous battle with ALS.

Born in Haverhill, September 26, 1947 the daughter of, Kenneth L. and Eva E. (Belmont) Oickle, she attended Haverhill public schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1965

Ms. DeMaris was employed as a case manager for elder services of the Merrimack Valley for many years until her illness forced her into an early retirement. She enjoyed relaxing to a good book, taking care of her house plants and she loved animals.

Besides her parents, she leaves her companion of nine years, John Burnell, of Haverhill, a son, John K. and his wife, Julie A. (White) DeMaris, of Haverhill, three daughters, Michelle R. Fleming and her husband, Mark, of Bradford, Beth A. Stempien, and her husband Scott, also of Bradford, Jennifer M. Moran and her fiancé, John Camarato, of Haverhill, a sister Debra A. Oickle, of Haverhill, eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild. .

Carol Ann Edith (Burnell) Sulesky, 74

Haverhill – Carol Ann Edith (Burnell) Sulesky, 74, of Haverhill, died Sunday, January 30, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill.

Born in Haverhill, January 30, 1937, she was the daughter of the late, Milton W. and Eleanor A. (Page) Burnell. She attended St. Joseph Grammar and Haverhill High School.
Mrs. Sulesky was employed in the Haverhill shoe manufacturing industry for many years. She then went to work at DYTEX Co. in Haverhill and retired in 1990.

Along with being a homemaker, she loved cooking, and as an active member of the Haverhill AMVETS Post #147 ladies auxiliary, she enjoyed sharing her culinary delights with other members.

The widow of Donald Sulesky, who died in 2009, she leaves her beloved daughters, Karen A. and Maureen A. Sulesky, both of Haverhill,a sister, Marlene Rodier, of Candia, NH, four brothers, Norman Burnell and his wife Donna, of Lewiston, ME, Paul Burnell, John Burnell, and Richard and his wife Betty, all of Haverhill, and many nieces and nephew. She was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Frank Sulesky, and a sister, Frances McLean, of Haverhill.

Boston – James R. Suozzo, 53, of East Boston, died Wednesday, January 26, at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Winthrop, June 1, 1957, he was the son of the late, Wilfred Suozzo and Joyce E. Sullivan. He attended Boston public schools and Saugus high school.

For many years, Mr. Suozzo was a self employed marketing entrepreneur, involved in the pharmaceutical industry.

He leaves a daughter, Terese Suozzo Kacandes and her husband, Christopher, of Boxford, a son, James R. Suozzo Jr, of Everett, two granddaughters, Isabella and Lilianna Kacandes, aunts and uncle, Dorothy DeGruttola, of Saugus, Verna Sullivan, and James Sullivan and his wife, Ruth, of East Boston.

Elsie B. (Kelley) MacKerron, 84

Haverhill – Elsie B. (Kelley) MacKerron, 84, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, died Tuesday, January 25, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Atlantic, Iowa, on January 24, 1927, Elsie was the daughter of the late Fred E. and Clara A. (Butler) Kelley, one of thirteen children. She graduated from Atlantic High School in Iowa and from Sioux Falls College in South Dakota. In recent years, Elsie attended the 60th anniversary for each of those graduating classes.

Elsie married her husband, the Rev. John A. (Jack) MacKerron, from Brockton Massachusetts, in 1952, after they met in Michigan as members of God’s Invasion Army. After a brief teaching career in the Massachusetts public schools, Elsie worked with Jack in his ministries in numerous locations, including churches in Hollis Center, Maine, Bradenton, Florida, Jackman, Maine and Holton, Maine. Their longest stint was at the White Mountain Chapel in Conway, New Hampshire, where Elsie founded and ran the Little Mountaineers Kindergarten. Elsie also worked, with Jack, in service of the New England District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, focusing on Christian education and women’s conferences matters. Elsie retired with Jack to Haverhill ten years ago, where she was active in various programs at Bethany Community Services.

Elsie is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Jack, her daughter and son- in-law, Miriam M. and Perry R. Bryant, of Lee, New Hampshire, her son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Denise H. MacKerron, of New York, New York, her four grandchildren, Amanda E. Bryant, Nathan P. Bryant, Matthew J. Bryant and Jane A. MacKerron, three sisters, Agnes, Clara, Edna, Novella and Stella, and several nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her son, Douglas J. MacKerron, and seven siblings.

Edolo A. Lupi

Haverhill – Edolo A. Lupi, a well-known Haverhill musician, passed away peacefully, January 22, 2011, at Penacook Place, Haverhill. MA.

He was born to Italian immigrant parents Michele and Almarinda (Caputi) Lupi on April 6 1912. He began his life-long career in music at the age of 8 when he learned to play the violin. With the support and encouragement of his father he studied, practiced, and began entertaining in his neighborhood. Once in high school, he learned to play the trumpet and piano and was a member of the Haverhill High School Orchestra and the Chapel Orchestra until his graduation in 1931. For the next nine years he developed his musical talents with other gifted musicians in Boston, New York, and on ships cruising to the Caribbean and South America. He played the violin, piano and trumpet, always developing his skill as a musician.

He married his beloved Eda I. (Forte) on October 20, 1940. To support his wife and later, his three daughters, he worked in the local shoe factories and played his music until he could afford to buy a car. With his wife’s encouragement, he then left the factories to work full-time as a music teacher and piano tuner. His three daughters would sometimes accompany him while he tuned pianos at various venues in the Merrimack Valley including The Frolics at Salisbury Beach. Saturdays and Sundays were spent playing big band and popular music at local weddings and in clubs with other Boston, Haverhill, and Lawrence area musicians. Edolo was always busy with a gig. As a result, he was able to earn a good living at something he really loved and influence the lives of many people in a positive way. He was also a violinist with the Merrimack Valley Philharmonic Orchestra for several years. Up until a few months ago, he was still having his weekly classical and jazz violin practice sessions with pianist Bob Killey, and lunching at a local restaurant with his musician friends, “The Boys”, Romeo, Bob, Tony, Neil, Paul and Benny.

Edolo loved his music, but his family came first. He always put time aside for his family be it a day at the beach, a few days vacation during the summer months, or spending good times with all the Lupi families during the holidays. Edolo loved to make people laugh with his joking ways. And because he has touched so many lives during his 98 years with his talent and personality, he will be missed.

Edolo is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eda, his daughters, Patricia and her husband Joseph Pelosi, Linda and her husband George Perkins, and Lorna Lupi, and his brother Romeo, a drummer, of Medford. He will also be missed by his grandsons Christoper Pelosi and his wife Olga, Jonathon Pelosi, George and Edward Perkins and his granddaughter, Lisa and her husband Mike Maher and many nieces and nephews. Edolo was predeceased by his siblings Alda Salafia, Remo, Gene, trumpet and bass player, and Ernie Lupi, drummer.

Joan Katherine Hart, 82

Haverhill – Joan Katherine Hart, 82, died Tuesday, January 18, at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, MA on January 15, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Isabel (Murphy) Hart. She attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1946.

Upon her graduation from Haverhill High, Joan went to work as a Line Worker for Western Electric, working 35 years before retiring in 1993. A member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Joan was also a member of St. James Parish in Haverhill. She was a doting aunt who absolutely loved spending much time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews, never forgetting a Birthday, Holiday, or Anniversary. Joan will be sadly missed buy those who loved and knew her, but her memory will live on with them forever.

Joan is survived by seven nephews, including her devoted caretaker, William J. “Bud” Hart of Haverhill, Michael J. Hart of Haverhill, Joseph Hart, of Haverhill, David R. Hart, of Haverhill, Thomas Hart, of Haverhill, George Lennon, of Haverhill, and James Henneberry of CT, four nieces, Mary P. Ann Estelle (Shaw) Bilodeau, 96

Haverhill – Ann Estelle (Shaw) Bilodeau, 96, died Sunday, January 9 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House after a year of declining health.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, William T. and Florence (Carr) Shaw. Her family lived in Westville, NH a neighborhood in Plaistow. After her marriage the family moved to Haverhill. She attended the Pollard School and went on to graduate from Haverhill High School, Class of 1932.Mrs. Bilodeau was employed as an LPN at local nursing homes, retiring in 1979. An active woman all of her life except for the past year, Mrs. Bilodeau was involved in her community, she was a member of the Women’s City Club, she was a founding member of the Plaistow 4 H Horse Club. An avid outdoors woman, she loved hunting, camping, fishing, and riding horses. She was a member of St. James church.

The widow of Raymond A. Bilodeau, she leaves her daughter and son in law, F. Rita and Richard A. Groves, of Bradford, grandchildren, Laurie Knowles, Richard “Skip” Groves, Timothy Groves, Patricia Lemire, Pierrette Bilodeau, Renee Mueller, Arthur Bilodeau, Yvette Nicol, Amanda Bilodeau, and Wanda Bilodeau, and Rick Melvin. Twenty-two great-grandchildren, and eighteen great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sons, Raymond A. “Sonny” Bilodeau and Robert Bilodeau, a grandson Raymond Bilodeau III, and siblings, Norman, William, Samuel, Clayton, Ida Van Wart, Arlene Shaw, and Mabel Preston.

Alvan Stanley Emerson, 83

Haverhill –Alvan Stanley Emerson, 83, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died Thursday, Janusry 6, at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, Frederick G. and Rachel (Caswell) Emerson. He attended Haverhill public schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1945.

Upon graduation Mr. Emerson enlisted into the U.S. Navy he proudly served his country during WWII. A Seaman Second Class, he served aboard the U.S.S. Los Angeles, receiving the WWII Victory Medal.

Following his honorable discharge, he went back to work on the Emerson Family Dairy Farm, located on Broadway in Haverhill. A machinist by trade, he left the farm and was employed by Bolton and Emerson Company, in Lawrence, where he would work until 1986. He also worked as a newspaper delivery driver, and delivered the Boston Globe and Herald every morning from Salisbury to Merrimac. A close family man, he then went to work with his son for Jade Landscaping and Sprinkler Systems until his illness forced him into retirement in 2003.

The widower of Mildred A. (Collins), who died in 2002, he leaves two sons, Douglas M. Emerson, of Plaistow, NH, Jeffrey C. Emerson, and his wife, Evelyn, of West Newbury, two daughters, Darlene M. Fisher and her husband Dean, of Plaistow, Gale L. Staples and her husband, Robin, of Haverhill, a sister Natalie Gagnon, also of Haverhill, five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Charles, Destiny, Ryan, Sarah, and Abigayle, a great granddaughter, Steffanie, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Alvan S. Emerson Jr, and siblings, Muriel, Dudley, Beatrice, Russell, Frederick, Barbara, and Lester.

Terry Lee (Muir) Therrien, 50

Haverhill – Terry Lee (Muir) Therrien, 50, of Troy, New Hampshire, formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, April 21, 1960, she was the daughter of Rita M. (Jerome) Muir and the late Howard W. Muir. She attended Haverhill public schools and Whittier Vocational Technical High School. A homemaker, she relocated to Troy, NH two years ago.

Besides her mother, she leaves a son, Jason P. Therrien, of Haverhill, a daughter, Candice Therrien, of Exeter, NH, four brothers, Bernard W. Muir and his wife Kathleen, of Haverhill, Daniel R. Muir, of Sandown, NH, Todd C. Muir and his wife Tina, of Haverhill, Keith R. Muir, of Haverhill, a sister, Tammy J. Muir, of Haverhill, a grandson, Keanen M. Kelly, and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Shawnda M. Therrien and a brother, Ronald E. Muir.

Joseph W. Ferrick, 54

Haverhill – Joseph W. Ferrick, 54, of Haverhill, passed away on Sunday, December 26, at the Beverly Hospital after being stricken ill suddenly at work.

Born in Haverhill, July 11, 1956, he was the son of William J. and Nancy (Lennon) Ferrick. Educated in Haverhill, he attended Haverhill Trade School and was a member of the first graduating class of Whittier Regional Vo-Tech, Class of 1974.

An upholsterer by trade; he often used his skills, working at his uncle’s shop in Bradford, Hygrade Upholstery Co. He attended Andover Tractor Training School receiving his Class 1 license and drove truck for Bentley Warren Company in Ipswich for the past ten years.

A loving, kind hearted, family man, Joe enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved the mountains and traveling to Province Lake. An avid snowmobiler, he was a member of the Seven Lakes Snowmobile Club.

He leaves his wife, Linda A. (Flavin) Ferrick, of Haverhill, three daughters, Shannon E. Ferrick-Mondejar, and her husband Jordan A. Mondejar, of Bradford, Sarah M. Ferrick, also of Bradford, and Rachel A. Ferrick, of Haverhill, his parents, Mr. William J. and Nancy (Lennon) Ferrick, of Hampstead, NH, three brothers, James M, Daniel T., both of Haverhill, and David J., of Melrose, two grandchildren, Lorenzo and Stella Mondejar, and aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister in law, Deborah (McKinney) Ferrick.

Grace E. (Taylor) Delaney, 77

Haverhill – Grace E. (Taylor) Delaney, 77, died Sunday, December 26, at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill after a lengthy illness.

Born in Lenoxdale, MA on December 5, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Ada (Robinson) Taylor. She attended Lawrence Public Schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1952.

Relocating to Haverhill in 1962, she and her husband Frank settled in the Acre section of the city to raise their family. An active reader and seamstress in her spare time, she made beautiful quilts. She was also an active member of St. James Parish, where she taught CCD Classes and helped in the planning of the yearly Christmas Bazaar.

Grace is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Frank P. Delaney, two sons, Timothy F. Delaney of Mansfield, MA and Kevin C. Delaney and his wife Stacey L. of Satellite Beach FL; two daughters, Faith E. Delaney of Newburyport, MA and Ann C. Anderson and her husband Karl O. of Londonderry, NH; six grandchildren, Matthew F., Ian F., Kaedin, and Brienna Delaney and Kaitlin and Nathan Anderson; and a sister, Doris Owens of Banning, Ca. She was predeceased by a brother, Alfred Taylor, and three sisters: Phyllis Taylor, Alice Taylor, and Ada Gallant.

Harold T. LaPlante, 89

Haverhill – Harold T. LaPlante, 89, died of lung cancer Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House.

Born in Lawrence, he was the oldest son of Arthur A. and Emma (Schwenke) LaPlante. He was educated in Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1938. A WWII Veteran, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the AMVETS post 147, Haverhill.

Harold leaves his wife of 67 years, Florence (Andrews), daughters Dot LaPlante, Donna and her husband Bud Lecuyer and son, Harold (Bud) LaPlante and his wife Steff and his youngest sister, Marion Chabot of Hampton, NH.

He will also be missed by his granddaughters: Darlene and her husband Glen Baker and their children, Dawn and her husband Todd Lavely and their children and Jessica and her husband Dan Mallon and their children and grandson Mitchell Potts and his children.

Harold was predeceased by his siblings Teresa Cata, Eleanor Gallagher, Mary Thomson and Arthur and Donald LaPlante.

A man of many talents, Harold had a long and varied career. He was mainly an auto mechanic by trade having owned and operated LaPlante's Gulf in Lawrence. He was also an accomplished carpenter having built his family's home in West Boxford where he was very active as a volunteer with the fire department for more than 15 years. He later loved his work as a courier for L&M Courier of Salisbury.

Harold loved to drive anywhere but Boston, playing the slots, watching sports on tv, especially auto racing, and traveling with his wife, Florence and their friends.

He and his family would like to thank all of the medical professionals and their support staff who cared for him in his times of need especially Dr. Theodora Christopher, Ellen Byron, Paul Proulx, and the folks at Merrimack Valley Hospice House.

Joseph Patrick Denney, 76

Haverhill – On December 11, 2010, Joseph Patrick Denney, 76, of Haverhill, was called home to God after he succumbed to a brief illness. He was born in Boston on May 28, 1934 and was a lifelong resident of Haverhill. He was the son of the late, Edward W. and Elizabeth (Quimby) Denney. Raised in the Acre section of this city, he was a graduate of St. James Grammar School and Haverhill Trade School, he also attended Northern Essex Community College, and was a member of St. James Parish.

A Veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Denney joined the U.S. Marine Corps with his lifelong friend Jack Reardon, proudly serving his country and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1961. He was employed as a Firefighter in the City of Haverhill for over twenty-five years, retiring in 1989. He also enjoyed doing electrical work, helping his friends and family, and in doing so was able to provide for his family and become a licensed electrician.

In his youth, he played ice hockey on all the local ponds in Haverhill and also skated for years at the Frost Arena with his good friend Merle Gaudreau. He was also an avid golfer where he was a member at Crystal Springs Golf Club.

He was married to Barbara A. (Dwyer) Denney for 25 years, who predeceased him in 2008, and now leaves his beloved children, Joseph D. Denney, and his wife, Garrett, of Flemington, NJ, Brian D. Denney and his wife, Jean (Ryan) , of Haverhill, Nancy Denney-Vadeboncoeur, of Haverhill, cherished grandchildren, Stefani Vadeboncoeur, of Haverhill, Joshua Theide, of Groton, Brendan and Briana Denney, of Haverhill, Evan and Paige Denney, and Jordan and Reagan Mitchell, all of Flemington, NJ, and several nieces and nephews.

Sofia Grace Montilla

Haverhill – Sofia Grace Montilla, the thirteen month old daughter of Ralphy Montilla and Felicia R. Belfiore, died Tuesday, December 7, at the Children’s Hospital in Boston after being stricken ill suddenly at home.

She was a beautiful happy litte girl who was cherished by her loving parents, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins

Sofia was born in Methuen on November 19, 2009 and lived in Haverhill. Besides her loving parents, she leaves a big sister, Isabella R. Montilla, maternal grandmother and her husband, Renee (Marini) and Michael P. Biggart, of Haverhill, maternal grandfather, Michael J. Belfiore, of Haverhill, paternal grandmother, Leonidas Montilla and her husband David P. Soler, of Orlando, FL, paternal grandfather, Rafeal Montilla, of Bronx, NY, and several aunts uncles, and cousins who will miss her deeply.

Louise H. (Rosso) Stevens, 89

Haverhill – Louise H. (Rosso) Stevens, 89, of Haverhill, died Monday, November 29, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after a long illness.

Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late, John B. and Theresa A. (Basso) Rosso. As a young child her family relocated to Italy where she would spend her elementary school years. Moving back to the United States, she would graduate from Columbia High School in New Jersey, attend Rutgers University and receive her Bachelors Degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

A Veteran of WWII, Mrs. Stevens proudly served her country, enlisting in the U.S. Army. During this time she would meet the love of her life, and future husband of sixty years, Robert J. Stevens. Stationed in the Philippine Islands, she would later be transferred to Japan during the occupation, where she worked at Headquarters under General McArthur. On her return trip to the United States, she survived a shipwreck onboard the SS Kina, which sank in a typhoon on Christmas Eve in 1947.

After the war, she and her husband settled and began to raise their family in Cincinnati, Ohio. Moving to Haverhill in 1962, she joined her mother and father in the daily management of the Hotel Whittier located in Washington Square. She later worked as a salesperson for Powell Electrical Supply in Haverhill. The widow of Robert J. Stevens, who died this past June, she leaves three sons, Charles R. Stevens, Robert W. and his wife, Patricia E. (Cote) Stevens, and John L. Stevens, all of Haverhill, three granddaughters, and one great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her brother, Romeo C. Rosso.

Arlene M. (Fontana) Rapisardi, 69

Haverhill – Arlene M. (Fontana) Rapisardi, 69, of Haverhill, formerly of Clinton, died Saturday, November 27, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Clinton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Kittredge) Fontana. She attended Clinton Public Schools and Clinton High School. She was employed by the Ray-O-Vac Company formerly of Clinton prior to becoming a full time homemaker. Arlene settled with her husband in Haverhill where she has raised her family and resided for the past forty-four years. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden and took great pleasure in cooking for family and friends.

She leaves her beloved husband of of forty-four years, Philip A. Rapisardi, of Haverhill, two daughters, Lisa Hallinan and her husband Timothy, of Lancaster, Laurie A. Rapisardi, of Haverhill, a son, Christopher Rapisardi and his wife Kristen L. (Heller) of Bradford, two sisters, Verilyn O’Connell, of Clinton, and Mary Briggs, of Greenfield, , two brothers, Marvin Fontana, of Grafton, and David Fontana, of Clinton, a brother in law, Kenneth Gallant, of NC, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Gallant and brother, Paul Fontana.

William C. Grover, 77

Haverhill –William C. Grover, 77, of Haverhill, formerly of Georgetown, died Thursday, November 25, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House after a six month long battle with cancer.

Born in Chelmsford, he was the son of the late, Ariston and Mildred (Russell) Grover. Educated in Groton Public Schools, he was a Graduate of Groton High School, Class of 1950. A Veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Grover proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during that period. He would spend the next forty-three years affiliated with the different branches of the U.S. Armed Services. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, until 1962 and followed with service in the Mass Army National Guard, retiring from the Army reserves in 1993. He was a member of the Georgetown American Legion, Rene Gagne Post 211.

Mr. Grover’s career spanned over thirty-four years employed by the State of MA. Working in the Department of Mental Health, and Department of Corrections, he worked at various facilities around the state, which included Concord and Norfolk Prisons, and Taunton State Hospital, the Hogan Regional Center, Danvers State Hospitals, and St. Anne’s Home, in Danvers. He was a regional business comptroller and was a business manager for the Department of Social Services. Although Mr. Grover retired in 1995, he never stopped working, he enjoyed keeping busy, always doing for friends or family, he was the ultimate handyman forever willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor, friend or even stranger. His devotion to family, community, and country, was exemplary.

He leaves his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Roberta J. (D’Arcangelo) Grover, of Haverhill, two sons, Warren A. Grover, of Jacksonville, FL, Michael J. Grover and his wife Victoria, of Haverhill, daughters, Kathleen J. Grover, of West Newbury, Lisa M. Grover and her fiancé, Al Paglio, of Milton, NH, Linda A. Lankowski and her spouse, Tina Jablonski, of Haverhill, Gayle J. Baird and her other half, James Crummey, of Louden, NH, and Deborah Lister, of North Andover, grandchildren, Shawn Schofield, Megan Stewart, Kayla Grover, Jadien Howard, Amber Nicosia, Jilletta Jarvis, James Baird, seven great grandchildren, a brother, Kenneth R. Helen Patricia “Pat” Mooers, 89

Haverhill – Helen Patricia “Pat” Mooers, 89- of Haverhill, died Monday, November 22 at Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Marlborough, she was the daughter of the late, John and Mary (Ryan) Burke. Spending her elementary school years in Bridgeport, CT, her family relocated to Malden, MA where she would graduate from Malden High School, Class of 1939.

At the end of WWII, she met and married the love of her life, former Haverhill Police Detective, Roland H. Mooers. Moving to Haverhill in 1949, she would spend the rest of her life as an active participant in her newly adopted city.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and career woman, she was employed as an office manager for the Boy Scouts of America, Lone Tree Council in Haverhill for over thirty-two years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Court St. James #436 Catholic Daughters of the Americas for over fifty-four years, serving as the Grand Regent, and Treasurer of the organization. As a resident of Mission Towers, she was known as the activities director and organized “Adopt a Platoon” to send supplies to the Troops serving overseas. She also worked the polls at election time.

She leaves her daughter, Kathleen A. Gregoire, two grandchildren, John M. Gregoire, and Kaitlin P. Baril, all of Haverhill, a great grandchild, Chassity R. Gregoire, a sister, Anne F. Fitzpatrick, of Haverhill, a niece, Deborah and her husband, Arthur Sullivan, of Hampton, NH, a nephew, Paul F. Fitzpatrick and his wife Andrea, of Marlboro, and great nieces and nephews. Leo John Quigg, 58

Haverhill –Leo John Quigg, 58, of North Berwick, Maine, formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday, November 14, at the York Hospital in York, Maine, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Milo, Maine, he was the son of the late, Joseph E. and Martha (Keegan) Quigg. As a child, his family relocated to Haverhill where he attended Haverhill public schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1970.

Mr. Quigg was employed as a machinist. He began his career at Foss Manufacturing Company in Haverhill. He then went to work for Xaloy Inc., and until recently, was employed by the Bruckner Supply Co. at Pratt & Whitney, in North Berwick, Maine.

Leo was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, he was a kind, thoughtful, gentleman. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Using his skills as a machinist, he would spend time as a crew member for a top fuel drag racing team.

He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Howard, a brother, Edward F. and his wife Marie (Gebala) Quigg, all of Haverhill, his aunt, Agnes Breen, of Cambridge, nieces and nephews, Veronica Dansereau, and her husband Laurence, and their daughter, Nicole, of Acton, ME, Christina Smedile, of Haverhill, Karen Daviduk, of Hampstead, NH, Renee Bellevance, of North Hampton, NH, Elizabeth Donlon, of Grand Jct., CO, Joseph Quigg, of Federal Way, WA, sister in law, Phyllis Quigg, of CO, and several great nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Robert.

Warren Lee Eldon, 74

Haverhill –Warren Lee Eldon, 74, of Haverhill, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at his home.

Born in Rockford, Illinois, August 26, 1936, he was the son of the late, Charles E. and Mildred (Wolfe) Eldon. Educated in Illinois, he was a Graduate of Rockford High School, class of 1953. A Veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Eldon proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.

Mr. Eldon was truck driver by trade; he hauled R. V. motor homes across country for many years, retiring in 1999. An avid fisherman, his friends nicknamed him “catfish”.

He leaves five children, Debra K. Hackbert, Wanda F. Schmuggerow, Dawn L. Eldon, Mark E. Eldon, all of Illinois, and Charlene Collins, of West Palm Beach, Florida, a brother, Charles J. Eldon, of Oakland, ME, a sister, Mary Woolbright, of Illinois, and nieces and nephews.

Edmond William Daly, 89

Haverhill – Edmond William Daly, 89, of Haverhill, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill.

Born in Haverhill, June 24, 1921, he was the son of the late, William J. and Nellie V. (McSweeney) Daly. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1940 and Haverhill Trade School Class of 1941, and attended Merrimack College. He was a lifelong member of St. James Parish and the St. James Holy Name Society.

Mr. Daly was the president and founder of E. W. Daly Company from 1961 until his retirement in 2000. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was also politically and civically conscientious and was always up to date on issues in his community, country, and world. He was a member of the Democratic City Committee, of which he served as Treasurer, and later, Chairman. He was a member of Kiwanis International, he was the past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the Jackson Club. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Norwich University Parents Association, and President of the Haverhill High School Hockey Boosters Club.

The widower of Lucinda H. (Snow), who died in 2009, leaves a son, Matthew J. Daly and his wife, Margaret “Peggy” (Wilson), of Natick, three daughters, Haverhill City Councilor, Mary Ellen Daly-O’Brien, and her husband, Thomas E. O’Brien, Lucinda A. Daly, Barbara E. Jesionowski and her husband James C., all of Haverhill, a daughter in law, Jane (DeRoche) Daly, of Kingfield, ME, twelve grandchildren, Elizabeth A., Julia E., Shannon M. and Bridget L. O’Brien, Tabitha E., John A. and Connor W. Daly, Jerek C., and Zachary W. Jesionowski, Ian J., Brianna M. and Christopher E. Daly, a brother, Daniel S. and his wife, Marie (Donovan) Daley, of Bradford, a sister, Helen Begley, of Lawrence, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Jerome F. William F. McCarthy, 92

Haverhill – William F. McCarthy, 92, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, October 26, at the Prescott Long Term Care in North Andover after a lengthy illness.

Born in Boston, January 5, 1918, he was the son of the late, Jeremiah and Catherine (Hutchinson) McCarthy. Raised in Medford, he was a Graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1938. He then received his engineering degree from Lowell Tech.

A Veteran of WWII, he proudly served his country in the US Navy. Upon his return he was employed as a planner at the Charlestown Navy Yard where he would spend his entire career, retiring in 1970.

Soon after retiring, he met and married the love of his life, Aileen (Morgan) from Haverhill, and would spend the next twenty-five years with her until her death in 2004. He was an avid reader and enjoyed ballroom dancing.

He is survived by his sisters, Kathleen Cannon, of Woburn, and Evelyn McCarthy, of Malden, nieces and nephews, Kathleen Boland, of Marstons Mills, MA, Eileen Shuman, of Brattleboro, VT, William McCarthy, of York, ME, the Honorable Michael McCarthy, of Nashua, NH, Robert Tremblay, of Ft. Worth, TX, Paul Tremblay, of Cambridge, James Cannon, of Deerfield, NH, John Cannon, of Londonderry, NH, Stephen Cannon, of Woburn, Lynn Larrabie, of Palos Verdes, CA, and Kevin Morgan, of Atkinson, NH, a sister in law, Mary T. (Norris) McCarthy, of Chelmsford, and many grand nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph F. McCarthy, Rita Tremblay, and nieces, Susan Cannon, and Lorraine Tremblay.

Born in Haverhill, September 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late, Eugene H. and Mary C. (Lynn) Lalumiere. A lifelong member of St. James Parish, she was a Graduate of St. James Grammar School and St. James High School, Class of 1953 .

She is survived by her brother and sister in law, John L. and Maureen (Halpin) Lalumiere, of Scituate, and a niece, Beth Mershon, of Milton.

Born and educated in Ireland, he was the son of the late, Thomas and Mary (McMahon) Kelly. H was a member of the former St. James Parish and St. Agnes Parish in Arlington.

Mr. Kelly was employed by the Town of Arlington, in the Water Department as a Water Mechanic for close to thirty years, retiring in 1992.

He leaves his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Geraldine J. Coutts, eight children, John S. Kelly, of Billerica, Paula T. Driscoll and her husband, Thomas, of North Reading, Thomas J. Kelly and his wife Patricia (McGoldrick), of Clinton, Mary Kelly-Burke and her husband Charles Burke, of South Boston, Joseph F. Kelly and his wife, Jeanne (Pigott), of Arlington, Eileen A. Haverhill – Evelyn A. (Malone) Morin, 87, of Haverhill , died Sunday, September 26 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice house in Haverhill , surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness.
Born in Haverhill on September 7, 1923 , she was the daughter of the late, Patrick and Katherine (McCloskey) Malone. An active lifelong parishioner of St. James Church, she was a graduate of St. James Grammar and St. James High School , Class of 1941, and earned her degree from Salem State University , graduating in 1945. She met her future husband while employed at the former H.L.Green store in downtown Haverhill . She enjoyed music and was an accomplished violinist.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she leaves her beloved husband of fifty-eight years, John J. Morin, children, David, Maynard, John, Margaret Abells and her husband Don, Daniel, Michael, and Tina McComis and her husband Geoph, a brother, Joseph G. “Gerry” Malone and his wife, Donna, three sisters, Sister Mildred Malone,CSJ, Sister Mary Malone,CSJ, and Sister Patricia Malone,CSJ. Henry E. “Harry” McNamara, 74

Haverhill –Henry E. “Harry” McNamara, 74, died Friday, September 10, at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Irish immigrants, the late, Patrick and Kathleen (Maher) McNamara. He was a graduate of St. James Grammar School and St. James High School, Class of 1953. He earned his B.S. Degree in Education at Salem State College and his Masters Degree from Northeastern University. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. James Church, serving on its parish council.

A true icon in the history of the city of Haverhill, “Coach Harry Mac” taught in the Haverhill Public School system for over thirty-seven years. He taught at the John Greenleaf Whittier Middle School from 1960 until 1973, and was promoted to the Dr. Albert B. Consentino School, retiring as Assistant Principle in 1996. His long and dedicated teaching career earned him respect and admiration by his peers, not only in the local school system but also on the state level, serving on many educational committees and receiving several awards, including, the government of Massachusetts Meritorious Service Award and Haverhill Bar Association Liberty bell award.

Not only was “Harry” dedicated to his students in the classroom, but also to the many local youth on various athletic fields. He coached Haverhill High Freshman Football and was the Director of the Haverhill Recreational Basketball League for over twenty years. He was the founding president of the Haverhill Touchdown Club as well as one of the original members of the Haverhill Stadium Commission. He received several athletic awards throughout his coaching career including the Lawrence Eagle Tribune Sportsman of the Year.

He leaves his beloved wife of forty-six years, Donna E. (Kyle) McNamara, of Haverhill, two sons, Patrick B. McNamara, also of Haverhill, Dennis J. and his wife, Amy C. (Siudit) McNamara, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, two cherished grandchildren, Courtney E. and Gavin J. McNamara, and a sister, Patricia M. McNamara, of Haverhill.

Donald G. Tuck Grandmaison, 64

Haverhill –Donald G. Tuck Grandmaison, 64 of Amesbury, formerly of Haverhill, died Thursday, September 9, at the West Roxbury Veterans Administration Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, Charles G. and Irene (Cowan) Tuck. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and Haverhill Trade School. A Vietnam Veteran, he was proud of his time served in the Marine Corps. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze Stars, Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation.

A painting contractor by trade, he was employed throughout the Merrimack Valley was not limited to that trade alone. He also worked for Letoile Roofing Company in Haverhill, and McCarthy Home Improvement Company.

Don enjoyed photography, fishing and boating, and was a fan of all sports.

He leaves two brothers, Roger N. Grandmaison and his wife, Sandra (Greenwood), of Haverhill, Charles G. Grandmaison and his wife Cheryl (DeHullu), of Haverhill two sisters, Mariann Anzaldi, of Haverhill, and Cheryl Dupuis and her husband, Edward, of Lawrence, and several nieces and nephew, and great nieces and nephews.

Haverhill –Thomas Edward Betty, 62, of Haverhill, formerly of Groveland, died Thursday, September 9, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Born in Haverhill, he was raised in Groveland, the son of the late George C. “Tip” and Gladys N. (Belmer) Betty. He was a Graduate of Pentucket Regional High School, Class of 1967. A Vietnam Veteran, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He furthered his education and earned his certification as an LPN from Whittier Tech High School.

Mr. Betty was employed at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill and the former Hale Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over thirty years. He was an avid reader, a fanatic of all Boston sports, and enjoyed watching movies.

Anna M. (Pilsucki) Stanvick, 92

Haverhill – Anna M. (Pilsucki) Stanvick, 92, of Haverhill, died Saturday, September 4, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital after being stricken ill suddenly.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Samuel and Anna (Sprinditis) Pilsucki. She attended Haverhill public schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1936. Soon after her graduation from high school, Anna married Joseph R. Stanvick. A lifelong resident of Haverhill, she lived and raised her family on King St., relocating to Haverhill Crossings on Amesbury Rd. four years ago.

Along with being a homemaker, Mrs. Stanvick was employed in the local shoe industry as a stitcher. She worked in various shoe manufacturing companies before retiring from the Allen Shoe Company in 1983.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, cooking, and looked forward to BINGO nights with her friends at Haverhill Crossings.

The widow of Joseph R. Stanvick, who died in 1995, she leaves three sons and their wives, Stephen R. and Donna (Dinsmore) Stanvick, of Biddeford, ME, Joseph W. and Andrea R. (Marquis) Stanvick, of Amherst, NH, and Kenneth C. and Paula (Berube) Stanvick, of Pelham, NH, a daughter, Lorretta J. Wieman, of Hull, MA, ten grandchildren, Laura Valovcin, Lisa McKenzie, Henry H. Robert W. Buckley Jr.

Haverhill – Robert W. Buckley Jr., Deputy Fire Chief Retired, of the Bradford section of Haverhill, died Monday, August 30, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Dorothy M. (Williams) and the late Robert W. Buckley Sr. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1975.

Mr. Buckley began his career in the Haverhill Fire Department in 1985 and rose to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief, retiring this July past, due to illness. Known to the men he worked with as a true professional to his calling, he was a fireman’s fireman. He had a great sense of humor, but knew how to stay cool when needed. He loved his community and enjoyed being of service to the people of Haverhill.

During his off time, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at the home in Lincoln, NH, floating around in his beautiful in ground plunge pool.

He leaves his beloved wife of three years, Angela M. (DiStefano) Buckley, a son, Aaron J. Buckley, and step daughter, Rachel-Morgan DiStefano, his mother, Dorothy M. (Williams) Buckley, all of Bradford, a brother and sister in law, William G. and Diane (Phaneuf) Buckley, of Atkinson, NH, aunts, uncles, cousins, and several brother firefighters with whom he shared a special bond.

Haverhill – Kathryn Blinn (Kavanaugh) Krafton, 62, of Haverhill, formerly of Ossineke, MI, died Saturday, August 28, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Alpena, Michigan, she was the daughter of Virginia (Hall) Kavanaugh and the late, Raymond J. Kavanaugh. She attended Alpena public schools and was a Graduate of Alpena High School, Class of 1965. She furthered her education in Cosmetology School and became a certified Cosmetologist.

As a newlywed, she and her husband, Charles, relocated to Haverhill, MA, in 1975, where she would enjoy a varied career path. She was employed at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, in the office of registration, for over fourteen years, she then worked for the Town of Andover in its Housing Authority Department for a number of years, and finally for the last five years she was in property management for Bethany Homes, Phoenix Row Complex, in Haverhill.

Although Haverhill was her new home, Kathy loved traveling back to her home town in Michigan and spending time with her family. She recently traveled to LasCruces, NM, to enjoy a “girls get together” with her sisters. But her adopted home in Haverhill is where she enjoyed entertaining most, hosting close friends, playing cards, laughing, and sharing memories together

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Harold A. and Margaret E. (Collins) Ferguson. She was a graduate of St. James Grammar School and St. James High School, Class of 1946.

Mrs. Gigliotti was employed as an Operator for the New England Telephone Company and retired in 1989 after a lengthy career that spanned over forty years.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and great-grandmother, Shirley enjoyed nothing more than time spent with her beloved family. She enjoyed a friendly card game and occasional trips to Foxwoods.

Celeste E. (Dufresne) Cronin, 77

Haverhill – Celeste E. (Dufresne) Cronin, 77, of Haverhill, died Saturday August 21, 2010, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital with her family by her side, after a sudden illness.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Darrell and Eva (Lamothe) Cronin. She attended St. Joseph's grammar school and was a graduate of St. James High School, Class of 1951.

Along with being a homemaker, she was employed as a house keeper at the former Hale Hospital in Haverhill. Celeste made her life as a mother her number one job, her devotion to all her seven children and unconditional love never wavered. To her we were all perfect in her eyes, and she would never change a thing. Everyone who knew
her, always knew that she was a very bright, sweet and caring woman. You could tell her heart was big. She especially loved seeing her grand/great children, but I think she was starting to lose count. Her passion included reading, camping, movies, collecting teddy bears and snow babies and especially music. Whenever she would hear
any of Neil Diamond's songs her smile could light up the room, she attended several of his concerts over the years. But in her final moments, she did it her way with such grace, bravery, and dignity, that we all are honored and blessed that God made her our mother.

Celeste is survived by three sons, Francis (Frank) Cronin of Haverhill, Edmund A. Cronin of Florida and Patrick D. Cronin of Hampton Falls, NH. Four daughters, Deborah T. Cronin of Plaistow, NH., Ellen E. Cronin of Hampton Falls NH., Celeste M. Cronin of Ormond Beach Florida and Kathleen M. Merrill and her husband Clayton of
New Durham NH, eight cherished grandchildren, Melinda Cronin, Kyle Woodman, Savannah, Travis and Jake Merrill, Danielle, Ashley and Joseph Cronin, five great grandchildren, a brother Darrell Dufresne of Seattle, WA. She was predeceased by her brother Felix Dufresne.

Shirley N. (Bouchard) Casey, 75

Haverhill – Shirley N. (Bouchard) Casey, 75, of Haverhill formerly of Malden, died Wednesday, August, 11, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill after a lengthy illness.

Born in Caribou, Maine, she was the daughter of Edna W. (Dubay) Bouchard and the late, Herman Bouchard. As a child, her family moved to Jamaica Plain. Her family then relocated to Medford and she graduated from Girls Catholic High School in Malden, Class of 1952. She furthered her education at Chamberlain Junior College, receiving her Medical Secretary Certificate.

In 1955, Shirley married her childhood sweetheart and settled in Malden. Her husband, Edward J Casey, died in March of this year. She and her late husband were active members of the Malden Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, # 1910.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Shirley enjoyed a long career at The Malden Hospital. She began as a Medical Transcriptionist, transferred to the Social Services Department, then became Administrative Assistant to three Vice Presidents, and later, Executive Secretary to the President. She retired after twenty-seven years of service to The Malden Hospital as the Executive Secretary of the Public Affairs and Marketing Department.

Shirley leaves her two beloved children and their spouses, Kevin J. Casey, and his wife, Heather, of Haverhill, MA, and Karen M. DiBlasi, and her husband, Thomas, of Salem, NH; four cherished grandchildren, Jessica A. DiBlasi, Julia M. DiBlasi, Erin N. Casey, and Rachel E. Casey; her loving mother, Edna W. (Dubay) Bouchard, of Ayer; a sister, Ann VanBuren, and her husband, Stephen, of Bolton, and nieces and nephews.

Judith Ellen (Silver) Flewelling,70

Haverhill – Judith Ellen (Silver) Flewelling,70, of Haverhill, died Saturday, August 7, at her home surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born and raised in North Brookfield, Queens County, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Randolph R. and Margaret (Awalt) Silver. Mrs. Flewelling attended North Queens Rural High School in Caledonia, Nova Scotia, graduating in 1958. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Saint Vincent College, Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1961 and a post graduate degree in education from University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, in 1964.

Upon moving to Massachusetts and starting a family, Mrs. Flewelling became involved in the Walnut Square School as a volunteer. She subsequently served on the Board of Directors of The ARC of Greater Haverhill-Newburyport.

She was employed in retail sales for Sears for over 20 years, retiring in 2000 from the Salem, NH store.

Mrs. Flewelling had a passion for gardening and loved all things in nature. She enjoyed traveling as well as attending shows and concerts. She especially enjoyed antiquing with her close friend, Jeanne Angelucci.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Judith leaves her beloved husband of forty-two years, Neil B. Flewelling, of Haverhill, two daughters, Christiane A. Flewelling and her husband, John Alba, of Huntington, NY, Lianna M. Flewelling, of Haverhill, two cherished grandchildren, Jack and Harry Alba, two sisters, Edith Shultz, of Peabody, MA, Margaret Silver,MD and her husband Ian Slayter, MD, of Halifax, N.S., two brothers, Henry Silver and his wife Pearl, of North Brookfield, N.S., William Silver and his partner Jean Millette, of Ottawa, Ontario and several treasured nieces and nephews.

Judith’s family is very greatful for the kind and wonderful care given to her by the Home Health VNA and Merrimac Valley Hospice.

Alan R. Mills, 48

Groveland –Alan R. Mills, 48, of South Groveland, formerly of Lawrence, died Friday, August 6, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.

Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late, James A. and Shirley C. (Seppa) Mills. He attended Lawrence Public Schools and was a Graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1981. Upon Graduation, Mr. Mills enlisted into the U.S.Army where he would proudly serve for the next three years. He was honorably discharged in 1984 and received the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Marksmanship Badge, Expert Badge, and Army Achievement Medal.

A carpenter by trade, Mr. Mills was a self employed contractor until illness forced him into an early retirement in 2000.

He leaves his beloved wife of twenty-seven years, Cynthia G. (Miller) Mills, a son Alan R. Mills II, a daughter, Sarra J. Mills, all of Plaistow, NH, a grandson, Zackary M. Strong, six brothers, Richard W. Mills Sr, of Okeechobee, FL, James A. Mills II, of Lawrence, Scott H. Mills and his wife Janine, of Palm Bay, FL, Robin D. Mills, of Grant FL, Douglas A., Mills, of Jacksonville, FL, David R. Mills, of Melbourne, FL, two sisters, Jamie a. Bourassa, of Jacksonville, FL, Lorna S. Sean Patrick Turner, 40

Haverhill - Sean Patrick Turner, 40, of Nashua, NH, formerly of Haverhill, died Wednesday, August 4, at the Southern New Hampshire Hospital in Nashua after being stricken ill suddenly at home.

Sean was born in Los Angeles, California, on February 9, 1970, the son of the late, Patrick Turner and Carol Weinburgh. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and Haverhill High School.

A man of strong faith, Sean was a devoted member of the Danville Baptist Church. He volunteered countless hours at church and at the Nashua Public Library; where he loved to read and study War History. He was a caring uncle who shared a special bond with his nephew Matthew.

He leaves his brothers, Paul A. Weinburgh, of Bradford, Martin Turner, of Huntington Beach, CA, a sister, Melissa Jones and her husband Chris, of Bradford, nephews, Matthew J. Weinburgh, of Bradford, Noah and Patrick Turner, of Huntington Beach, CA, and Elijah Jones, of Bradford, nieces, Katherine M. and Anna L. Weinburgh, of Bradford, Faith Turner, of Huntington Beach, CA, and Olivia and Ariella Jones, of Bradford. Sean also leaves behind countless Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and close friends.

Alfred Dale Fleming, 79

Haverhill -Alfred Dale Fleming, 79, of Haverhill, died Thursday, August 5, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington after a brief illness.

Born in Oxbow Maine, he was the son of the late, Alfred T. and Mabel B. (Sawyer) Fleming. As a young child his family moved to Lawrence where he attended Lawrence Public Schools and was a Graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1948. After his service to country he continued his education and received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1957.

A Korean War Veteran, he enlisted into the United States Air Force shortly after graduation and proudly served his country for the next three years. He was honorably discharged and received the Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.

Mr. Fleming was a man of many talents, he enjoyed a career of varied experiences, he was employed as a home health aid for the V.N.A. in Lawrence, he was a real estate broker for Vernon- Martin Associates, in Haverhill, he was employed as a senior securities clerk at a stock brokerage house in Boston, and a short order cook at Ryan’s restaurant and Howard Johnson’s in Haverhill. He was involved in his church and served as parish clerk at Trinity Episcopal Church for twenty years. He loved traveling, deep sea fishing, gardening and photography.

He leaves his beloved wife of nineteen years, Lee (Smith) Fleming, of Haverhill, two step sons and their wives, David M. and Arlene Moseley, of North Carolina, Mark S. and Jessica Moseley, of Hampstead, NH, grandchildren, Keisha, Shanti, McKenzie, and Joseph Moseley, a brother and sister in law, Neil S. and Patricia Fleming, of Hopewell Jct., NY, two sisters, Phyllis Ryan, of Edgewater, FL, Hazel Jennings, of Haverhill, a sister in law, Marie Fleming, of Lawrence, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, David D. Fleming, and sisters, Pearl Bushway, and Jean Fleming.

Haverhill - Erick Santiago-Hernandez, 39, of Haverhill, formerly of Puerto-Rico, died Wednesday, August 4, at his home.

Born in Carolina, Puerto-Rico, he was the son of Erick Santiago and Iris Hernandez. Mr. Santiago was employed as laborer for many contractors in the local construction industry.

He leaves three sons, Erick, Joey, and Bryan Santiago, a daughter, Stephanie Santiago, a brother, Pedro Vega, of Methuen, two sisters, Melinda and Elizabeth Santiago, and many nieces and nephews.

Thomas A. Hafford, 61

Exeter, NH – Thomas A. Hafford, 61, of Exeter, NH, formerly of Haverhill, MA , died Sunday, August 1, at the Exeter Hospital after being stricken ill suddenly at his home.

Born in Presque Isle, Maine, he was the son of the late, Cyrus L. and Exina (Thibeault) Hafford. Mr. Hafford was a self employed carpenter.

He leaves two sons, Cyrus Hafford, of Derry, NH, and Joshua Moschetti, of Haverhill, three daughters, Amanda Budrow, Jen Hafford, and Kristie Moschetti, all of Haverhill, four brothers, Jeff, of Haverhill, Michael and his wife, Barbara, of Haverhill, Roger, of Raymond, NH, and Richard and his wife, Linda, of Center Ossippee, NH, three sisters, Gloria Abbott, of Haverhill, Judy Anderson, and Mary Emerson, both of Maine, eight Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Norma Louise (Tegos) Lavalley, 79

Haverhill-Norma Louise (Tegos) Lavalley, 79, of Haverhill, died Sunday, July 25, with her loving family by her side, at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Swampscott, she was the daughter of the late, Stergios and Gladys (Neeley) Tegos. As a child her family moved to Haverhill, where she attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1949.

Mrs.Lavalley began her career at the Western Electric Co. when it was located in Haverhill. She then left the Western and began raising her family. Family was everything to her. She watched her children grow and start their own families. She then resumed her career as a Pie baker at Mann Orchards in Methuen for over ten years, retiring in 1998.

She leaves her beloved husband of sixty years, Robert R. Lavalley, of Haverhill, a son, Robert Lavalley, of Redwood City, CA, two daughters and their husbands, Debra and Thomas Gagne, of Salisbury, and Lisa and Brian Toohey, of Plaistow, NH, eight cherished grandchildren, Joshua Gagne and his wife Allison, Adam Gagne and his wife, Katelyn, Phillip Gagne and his fiancé, Cailynn Wirtz, Brian, Cameron, and Austin Toohey, Rose and Rae Lavalley, three great-grandchildren, Troy, Brooke, and Morgan Gagne, a brother and sister in law, Stergios and Margaret Tegos, of Lebanon, TN, and nieces and nephews.

Shaina Lee Fekeris, 20

Haverhill-Shaina Lee Fekeris, 20, of Haverhill, died unexpectedly, Saturday, July 17, at the Peabody North Shore Hospital.

Born in Holyoke, MA, June 12, 1990, she was the daughter of Tina M. Doucette and Robert G. Fekeris. She attended Chicopee Public schools and moving to Haverhill as a young child, attended Haverhill Public Schools and Haverhill High School.

Shaina was a new mother to a seven month old girl, Angelecea, the light of her life. She was a gifted writer, singer, and songwriter. She enjoyed family gatherings and loved to be the center of attention.

She leaves her daughter, Angelecea Mayla Fekeris-Faro, her mother, Tina M. Ducette, of Haverhill, her father, Robert G. Fekeris, of Florida, two brothers, Jaime C. Fekeris, of Haverhill, Justin R. Fekeris, of Saint Petersburg, FL, paternal grandparents, Harry and Barbara Fekeris, of Springfield, MA, great grandmother, Pearl Murphy, of Chicopee, MA, uncles, Charles R. Duocette, of Reno, NV, Bryce P. Doucette, of LasVegas, NV, and several cousins. She was the granddaughter of the late, Charles R. and Maydene (Murphy) Ducette.
