      John Stephen Kelly, 56

Arlington, MA

John Stephen Kelly, 56, of Arlington, died Friday, January 20, 2012, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Arlington, he was the son of Geraldine J. (Coutts) and the late Thomas J. Kelly. John was a Graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1973 and obtained his Bachelor Degree from North Adams State College. He completed studies at the New England Institute of Anatomy, Sanitary Science and Embalming and began his distinguished career in funeral service. John was a well respected funeral director who assisted countless families and funeral homes throughout the area.

An avid sports enthusiast, he ran and or biked daily. He enjoyed all of the Boston sports teams, while his favorite pastime was snowmobiling in northern New Hampshire and Canada.

He leaves three children, Michael, Hannah, and Erin Kelly, all of Wilmington, his mother, Geraldine J. Kelly, of Arlington, four brothers, Thomas J. and his wife, Patricia Kelly, of Clinton, Joseph F. and his wife Jeanne, Michael B. and his wife Janet, and  Daniel  P. Kelly, all of Arlington, three sisters, Paula T. and her husband, Thomas Driscoll, of Reading, Mary C. and her husband, Charles Burke, of South Boston, and Eileen  A .and her husband, Mark Roper, of Burlington, aunts, Agnes Phillips, of Arlington, Joan M. Comeau, of Seabrook Beach, NH, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM at the DeVito Funeral Home, 1145 Massachusetts Ave. Arlington, MA . Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Agnes Church, 51 Medford St. Arlington. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, 30 Broadway, Arlington.
