      David Raymond Guard, 54

Haverhill, MA

David Raymond Guard, 54, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Haverhill, died Saturday, May 28, at the home of his brother, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy illness. 

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Sheila (Boland) and the late, Dr. J. Edward Guard. He attended Haverhill public schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1974 and attended Northern Essex Community College.

A resident of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the past twenty-two years, he was a self employed plumbing contractor as well as the proprietor of the “Grumpy Scoopa” an ice cream stand that he ran for many years.  In his spare time he enjoyed reading, gardening, camping, and working in his yard.

He is survived by his mother, Sheila H. (Boland) Guard-Facella, of Methuen, two daughters, Jessica A. Carey and her husband, John F., of Newton, NH, and Sarah M. Guard, of Amesbury, a son, Kevin J. Doherty, of Lansdale, PA, a brother, Christopher T. Guard and his spouse, David F. Maroon, of Methuen, two sisters, Maureen A. Guard, of Sumter, SC,  and Alicia B. Mazza and her partner James C. Sieczkowski, of Fremont, NH, three grandchildren, Zoe A. Shine, Izabella M., and Madison E. Carey, a niece and nephews, Emily K. Mazza, Benjamin C. Mazza, Jacob M. Sieczkowski, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him dearly. 

Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Thursday, from 5 until 8 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Primrose St. Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St. Lawrence, MA 01843, or the Dana- Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6, Brookline, MA 02445-9924.
